I agree with HappyJo; both that more info is needed and that it is reasonable to seek a second opinion from an independent cardiologist, if it's practical to do so. Of course there might be a perfectly good reason for implanting a pacemaker: It might be needed to prevent tachyarrhythmias, if that's what you get. I'd be asking for info info info. Good luck with the procedure and great that you are getting treated.

Not much more to add! There might be a perfectly good reason for his recommendation, but I could never proceed without knowing what his idea is based upon. Get the answers you need to make an informed decision. Take someone with you as well in case you feel you are not taking in all the doctor says or "cat got your tongue", and you only remember your questions once you leave! ?

My poor doctors had to sit through my lists of questions, but I made the list and waited until I obtained answers. They might not be the answers we wanted, but not to have asked leaves us wondering even more!

Keep us posted, hope you find a solution soon!

You need to know what sort of pacemaker it will be and what it's going to do. Some are just defibrillators, some only clock in if the rate is abnormal and some work all the time - as in pace and ablate. A friend has had pacemakers for about 15 years because her heart pauses for long periods. She recently told me that instead of replacing it they reckon that they can recharge it in-situ. How clever is that?

I agree with everyone else. Ask questions. Knowledge is power!

From experience, I suffered with AF collaps etc for 5 years, was fitted with a Pacemaker, now have my life back and feel wonderful.

Pacemaker does seem to be a good option as they may get you off many tablets and give you a good life. But as all of the above have said you need to ask lots of questions as to why they came to the conclusion.

I was due a Pace and Ablate as there was no other option available for me but I have since been diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension on top of my heart and lung problems. The Pace and Ablate has now been cancelled.

Make that list and go though each and wait for the answer before you move on.

Be Well
