Hi Poppyseed! Unfortunately Rampiril is a class of drug, an ACE inhibitor, that is notorious for causing cough. Usually if it is too much of a nuisance you can change to another drug with a different mechanism of action. That said, I used to be on ACE inhibitor for my BP, and I too got the cough. I felt so good otherwise on the drug that I did some research and found that sometimes if you go off of it for a short time (under your doc's supervision) and then very slowly titrate back up to the ideal dose, you can avoid the cough. That really worked did the trick for me and I was on it for several years then with no cough. Eventually the drug was not helpful for me any more but you might discuss that strategy with your doctor. I hope you are otherwise feeling really well!

I've been taking ramipril for many years. It has many benefits...in my opinion. One of my side effects is a slight cough...mostly in the early days of taking it...years ago. when I run out and go without taking it for a few days...and begin again...the slight cough returns and then goes away. I hope this helps....actually I think I read that a slight cough may be a side effect.

I developed a cough with Ramipril when first diagnosed with AF a couple of years or so ago. My GP changed it for Losartan and cough went away, Cardiologist did not sound too happy when I next saw him as he said that there were other benefits apart from BP control.

Anyway I stayed with Losartan, along with my other meds, and remain cough free.

If only I could say the same about the AF!!!!!!

Thank you both for your feedback

I started on ramipril and developedca cough, after a month or so,was switched to simvesarten, the cough remained. But after around six weeks it gradually eased and currently cough free. So you may want to try ramipril a while longer!?
