is it true that before an ablation you have to have a tube own your throat to look for clots
forgot to ask: is it true that before... - Atrial Fibrillati...
forgot to ask
Well, that didn't happen to me. I specifically asked the EP why I hadn't had it and he replied " Because you already had an anaesthetic tube down your trachea."
I honestly dont know but having attended two preassessments and at each
the first thing that happens is you have ecg and the time of each I did not
have af. My feeling is that this has something to do with it, but Im very
likely to be wrong. I have no doubt that someone on this site will have the
answer. I was very relieved not to have it as it does leave you with a sore
throat.
That's what I was told will happen to me Atrialfib, but I'll have to wait and see.
thanks everyone.
After my last ablation I did have a slight feeling in my throat, not exactly sore but it did feel a bit funny, so guessing they went down there? But I was under GA and wasn't aware of it.
Koll
thats alright then,i dont cae if they do it when your alseep, but i was told they had to do it before they put you to sleep
The TOE is to use an echo sounder to check the back of the heart for any possible thrumbus yes. In most cases this is done if the patient has not been properly anticoagulated for the requisite length of time. Not all EPs use this method although I have had it once when I needed a cardioversion at short notice. In such cases it is usually done under GA prior to the zap . Some EPs use GA for ablation as well (my preference) so you may never know.

How comes Bob you always tell me the answer, you need to start a surgery.
I am going in for one 3 days before ablation. I have had T.I.A.s in the past so I guess they want to be extra sure that there are no clots lurking. I'm not looming forward to it but am being sedated so hope it won't be too bad.x
I had it done before cardio version and then at time of ablation - both times I was under GA so no biggie.
It's the only way they can see the back of your heart to make sure no clots there.
I have had a TOE before an ablation twice but not for the third.
I had a TOE the day before my ablation. No GA just a sedative and numbing spray on the throat but best of all a drug that completely wipes the memory of the procedure, I watched them put the sedative in and then it was all over and I could not remember anything in between but had a sore throat. It was a very strange experience. Even if you don't have that the procedure only lasts about ten minutes.
Best of luck.
Never known this to happen
If you have a general anaesthetic I'm sure you would always have a throat pipe
