Hmm how odd. Could it be the residue of gums bleeding from having bushed his teeth before going to bed, or is it too much blood? My daughter had adenoids that bled and she would have periods of spitting up blood, she ended up having them taken out and was cured. You could certainly do with knowing where this blood is coming from. Does he take anticoagulants like warfarin?

Hope this problem is soon resolved for you.

Best wishes.

Blood coming from anywhere should be checked out until the cause is found...

Yes, I'd say they need to track that down. I am assuming it's not large quantities or they would have him in hospital looking... It must be something in the mouth/nose area that's the culprit, I would assume - if he's on warfarin or another anticoagulant that might add to the issue, of course...

A while back I woke up one morning with something lumpy in my mouth and discovered it was blood clots. I assumed that I had a nose bleed in the night and although I was literally spitting blood for an hour or so it never repeated. Checked my wife's neck and no sign of puncture marks! LOL

I would hazard a guess that the gums are the culprit. Since I've been on warfarin, I bleed somewhat from the gums at night. Not a huge problem but it eventually congeals over night and ends up as a brownish/red colour and looks a bit alarming until you know what is happening. If you feel your teeth are OK, I would have it checked out to make sure.
