I wonder how many are taking CQ 10 and finding it beneficial for their AF and any particular brand ? Sandra
CQ 10: I wonder how many are taking CQ... - Atrial Fibrillati...
CQ 10
I took it some years ago because I understood that it was beneficial if you were taking statins. I didn't think that it made any sort of difference and it was horribly expensive.
Thanks Jenny, interesting to hear! Sandra
Yep, I take 100 mg every day. Coenzyme Q10 is important for good function of the heart muscle , among other things, and I think that since my heart is healthier now than it was when I started to take it 2 years ago, I am not going to stop taking it. I take different brands, depending on where I am shopping.
Thanks Grandma, although that is the opposite to Jenny's post ! I shall probably just have to give it a go. How long before one should feel the effects, whatever they might be ?! Sandra
It has been so long since I started to take them, and I made other changes along with it, so it's tough to say. But it was definitely soon after starting them that I noticed that an episode of AF was not as problematic in terms of being uncomfortable and then once I made the rest of the changes the episodes became farther and farther apart. I think it has all worked together for me.
I use Lamberts, professional nutritionists use this company, well manufactured and they have a great helpline. Otherwise Boots or Viridian, my local health shop stocks the latter. I tend now to take Ubiquinol, the active form of COQ10.
I notice a slight difference in energy when I don't take it but my energies are all over the place through other conditions so hard to say what affects which!
Just started this week 100mg per day. Now stopped temporarily as I am struggling to work out why I pee a lot when I have a reasonable portion of maple syrup or honey or sweet fruits - I suspect it is connected with the Flecainide but that might be unfair. Every day's a school day!!
It is a common symptom of AF - do a search on the posts, Bob D gave a very clear explanation of why quite recently.
The thing with CQ10 and some other supplements which are supposed to help our hearts is that there is no way of knowing for sure that they are actually doing any good - would I feel exactly the same if I didn't take my daily CQ10 tablet? In the meantime though I'm happy to keep on taking them because the response from every medical professional that I've mentioned this to has been a positive one.
They are expensive, but having bought them from Tesco previously, I now get mine from Costco - they are slightly dearer than I was paying before, but there are twice as many of them and each tablet has three times as much CQ10 as I was taking before.
Co Q10 does not just help the heart it helps all our body as it is good for cell formation and stuff like that. Try Healthspan (channel islands company) mail order. I take it all the time along with zinc and magnesium.
That said most medics will poo poo the whole supplements thing.
Bob (trying ever so hard to be balanced).
I agree it is good for cell formation throughout the body, but it is important to note that it is particularly good for cardiac cells, and therefore, cardiac muscle..
For those with congestive heart failure, some good studies have come out to show CoQ10 offers a powerful assist in that situation, improving the heart's pumping ability.
CoQ10 levels are depleted by aging and statin medications and because the heart muscle uses more energy than any other tissue and normally has the highest concentration of CoQ10, it is very sensitive to CoQ 10 deficiency.
I think here in the US, most cardiologists are now proponents of taking this supplement.
Thanks for the explanation Grandma. It all makes sense!
Sandra
I took Q10 for a year or so in NZ on the advice of a friend who operates as a Naturopath, he said it could help heal any damage caused by anti biotic use. I don't remember feeling any effects but that may be normal. He did mention that "good" q10 is hard to come by.!?
I wonder if anyone know's how to get an independent check on such a product in the UK?
I'm currently giving them another try to help counter any ill effects from Warfarin.. but like most , am totally in the dark as to their potency.. I'm sure most here would agree in the need to know if the product is pure and contains "good" Q10.
Any suggestions from the very knowledgeable folks on here.?
Also interesting I believe:Here is the link to the first of 11 part cure for cancer, pass it on to your friends and family, I think it is very important having watched his first series earlier this year.

Hi Sandra,
I take the CQ10 as Ubiquinol, from Healthspan and have been taking it now for 18 months. I am persistent/permanent AF and prior to taking it was starting to get rather breathless with some chest pain even with just a little exertion. I was about to start re-roofing our old barn at the farm prior to starting the CQ10 and was a bit concerned as to how I would manage. The difference was amazing, within a couple of weeks. I was then up and down ladders up on the roof with none of the previous problems.
Can thoroughly recommend it.
Walter.
Hi Walter, your reply plus others convinces me to start on COQ10, particularly Ubiquinol as CDreamer also advises. I don't expect to be climbing onto roofs ( husband would have me certified if I was to attempt it ) but to get on with my home decorating would be a start.
Many thanks
Sandra
Dear Farmerwalt, just wanted to say thank you for a message you sent me some months ago as we seem to both have the same/similar condition. You reassured me about continuing to be active and how you had travelled overseas, something I was afraid of doing! I have just come back after a trip to Italy on a gentle walking holiday - wonderful. Your kind words stuck with me and helped me to remain positive.
I started taking CQ10 a couple of weeks ago and seemed to notice a positive change within a week - have felt so much better.
I started taking CoQ10 a few months ago, to try to stop my hair thinning. I also changed from warfarin to Xeralto with the same thing in mind, among other reasons. I haven't noticed a thing, I regret to say. No changes in hair, energy or heart activity. I suppose these changes I'm hoping for, could take time, so I'm going to keep going with them. I might try ubiquinol, or go for the Costco ones. JanR
Jan, how disappointing for you. I am going to try Ubiquinol as advised by CDreamer & Farmerwalt. Sometimes these things do take a while to kick in but I would have thought that a few months would have been sufficient. Apparently CoQ10 can only do good.
