Changing Meds.

At present I am on Bisoprolol 1.25mgs daily and Warfarin and Statins.

I saw an EP recently and he has changed my meds to Flecainide 100 mg as pill in the pocket and Verapamil slow release 120 mgs. (waiting for surgery to re-write prescription as chemist can't get the capsules only tablets available!)

What no body seems able to tell me ( I didn't ask the EP) is whether I should just change, ie stop taking the Bisoprolol, I missed it once and had an AF attack within 24 hours. My GP is on holiday and the GP I spoke to today did not seem sure neither have either of the two pharmacists I have asked.

Hopefully some one on this site does know the answer as I am really quite worried about this change over.

Hi, Can you call you EP's secretary at the hospital. She will ask him and call you back. Its worth a try and I have found this route valuable. Alternatively does the hospital have an Arrhythmia nurse you can speak with, they will either know the answer or check with your EP.

The change over I suspect will need to be phased in over a short period but I am not a medic only going on my experience when my meds were altered. Be sure to get medical expertise on this matter one way or another.

Hi Sue, I have the same problem Regarding Verapamil slow release Capsules, I phoned the Doctors, they said its ok to take the Tablets, Apparently they work the same so I have done but I prefer the Capsules really but they are still unavailable, I have tried again this week they cant get them from the suppliers for some reason, and not been told why that's what the Chemist have told me, I am on 120mg too, hope this helps ps I have been fine

Thanks Suzy, I rang the hospital and found there was an Arrhythmia nurse whose tel no I now have. Thank you all, your advice was just what I needed and I now feel much more confident about changing my meds. Just in case any one needs to know I can just stop the Bisoprolol and start on the Verapamil tomorrow as I am on very low dosage.
