changing med for Afib

I was having a lot of lightheadedness and dizziness so my doctor Put me on only one atenolol pill and left me on 2 Flecainide and also took me off of my blood pressure pill.

This Seem to be a change as I have been on a blood pressure pill for many many years.

I will let you know how it turns out.

I wonder what your BP was before you stopped the pill? Light headedness is often caused by low blood pressure. I've been given blood pressure pills even though I have normal BP as I was told they protect the heart in the long term.

HiYou are on blood thinners because of AF - irregular heart beat where the blood can pool.

And.or because of your age.

Are you on BP pills?

My BP it’s always been low but because of mini strokes Dr put me on blood thinner and blood pressure pill many years ago. A fib has just been a problem the last year and still trying to find what is the best thing to take. And then on many beta blockers etc. etc.

It’s a devil to deal with at times. The anxiety on top can make it altogether worse, of course.

Hi Steve - You're on BP medication even though you don't have high BP? Doesn't that cause you to have low BP? And do you know any more about the premise that BP meds protect the heart in the long term? I'm intrigued.

Hello Helen. I was surprised when my doctor prescribed it (Losartan 100mg). His explanation was that as I’m now 68 and have arrhythmias and left-branch block, the drug will be “cardio-protective” in the longer term, and preserve the left ventricular output.

My BP was most quite normal before and hasn’t changed much since, to my surprise. I do have it in my mind reading somewhere that these drugs reduce only high BP but have no effect on normal BP.

There are many studies that show up on an internet search that show how well these drugs work on protecting the heart but I haven’t found one in which it was given without some more obvious reason.

HiI agree lightheadedness and dizziness are caused by low blood pressure.

I got it on Diltiazem 180mg. I dropped 100 h.beats minute within 2 hrs starting it.

I worked out with Healthline cause it was a weekend, that I needed to reduce the also Bisoprolol. Then it hapened again so I rang the HEART FOUNDATION. The nurse knew my Priv Heart Specialist.

I was lowered to 120mg Diltiazem a.m and to SEPARATE BB Bisoprolol to 2.5 mg p.m

Then balanced BP 123/72. and now H/R is 77-88 day 47 NIGHT.

I was on 158 H/R Day on only Bisoprolol and 186 on Metroprolol breathless and fatigued.

No more heart stressed so profuse sweating disappeared. And less stopping after elevation walking.

For the info I feel much better now about stopping the blood pressure pill.
