I know it early days, but had my ablation yesterday and seem to be back in AF as soon as I got home. Has anyone had a similar experience. Feel really down at the moment and really hoping it will settle back down

Oh dear, Steve, that's not what you want. Habe you got a number that you can phone for advice? You will no doubt be told that this is normal in early stages but even so, you need assurance. Sandra

Thanks Yatsura I have e mail contact with me consultant who is very good. I just need to be realistic and accept / hope it will settle down.

These events are quite normal at this stage so please don't give up. If you have access to an arrhythmia nurse do call her if you are worried . In the meantime rest as much as you can.

Thanks Bob I suppose one has such expectations and even knowing the facts that this can happen its a real downer as you always imagine the perfect world. Thanks for getting back to me

Steve - I had my first ablation in 2009, and almost immediately I was constantly suffering from AF. After 6 months of misery I had a second ablation which gave me nearly 3 years of 'freedom', and only a few episodes of AF. Stick with it for a few weeks, would be my advice.

Hi Fayolan thanks for the message my good news is that it is back to normal I think in just need to be patient.

Steve- sorry to hear you are in AF- you won't really know until the "blanking" period, - first 3 months - is over.

The main thing is you are over the procedure safely so try and relax and wait to see how you get on. Do keep us up to date on your progress,

Good luck

Hi Rosy you are absolutely right spoke with my consultant and he said exactly that, the good is that it is back to normal today

Pleased to hear you've got over that bout. I've had three since my ablation nearly 3 months ago and though it's disappointing, we probably shouldn't be discouraged.

Thanks I just annoyed with myself because I knew this may happen. I must be patient.

Hi Steve - I've had a few short AF episodes and ectopic beats since my PVI last week but it all seems to have settled down now, so I wouldn't be too worried about it. Just accept that its a settling down period.

Hope you're managing to get some rest! :)

Hi Paul thanks, it is back to normal today and I was totally expecting it, but you just hope all will be resolved straight away. Resting is my problem find it so hard to relax. But I have to realise that I have just had heart surgery. I suppose because you go home to next day it gives you a false impression of the type of op. Will rest though. Hope all ok with you.

Hi Steve

I had my first ablation (cryo) last December and had an AF attack during the night whilst still in hospital and on a monitor!

I had many attacks over the next few weeks and was in constant touch with my arrhythmia nurse. I made me very despondent too as I thought I would be fixed but the nurse spoke to the Consultant and various medication changes took place without me even having to see anyone. I was also put on the waiting list for a second ablation before I had my three month check up. Still waiting for an exact date but should be having the second ablation (RF version) in August.

Hopefully yours will settle down soon - if not maybe we will both be second time lucky!

Hi thanks and truly I hope all goes well in August

Steve this happened to me after my first ablation in 2006 and there was no AFA, no forums and no arrhythmia nurse. The hospital didn't give me the 6 week follow up appointment until two months later and then for six week later than that so you can see how I felt. I went into the procedure fondly thinking I would wake up cured so my mental state was very low. This is the main reason why I hang around these days as I vowed then that if I could ever help another sufferer then I would. We all need support so don't worry about having fallen into that particular trap as I think we all do really.

Bob that must have been awful. Without fear of contradiction this forum has helped me so much I can never be more thankful to you and all the members for the reassurances I have been given.

I had lots of episodes after ablation 7 months ago. One lasted 20 hours which was the longest I'd ever had. It took 4 months before stopping completely. It is now 3 months since the last one and feeling great. I am off meds (not counting warfarin) so that's a result! Don't be too quick to think it has failed as it can take quite awhile to settle down. Should mine start again I will be running back to have it done again. All the best and stay positive.

Hello Steve. I had my ablation in Dec 2013. In January 2014 I had two recurrence but since after that I have had none. Do some walking exercise and you will be ok.

Hi Jean thanks it is much better today in fact if it was not for a splitting headache I feel quite good

That's good to hear. I think all the drugs pumped into you throughout the ablation procedure knock you for six too. Hope you continue to improve each day - am sure you will.

Hi Steve, I'm sorry to hear your back in AF. We build ourselves up to this procedure thinking it will be an immediate cure all, but it will take time for your heart to settle, it will take time for the scar tissue to form, to block out the rogue impulses. Just rest and don't excert your body or your mind if it comes to that, and if all else fails there are more tries at this procedure to block out the impulses, so don't give up x

Hi MammaCass it was only the day after and I was sort of expecting it but it went reasonably quick and fine since. I think my biggest problem is tiredness but not being able to sleep well and to keep resting, I just want to get back to what I am used to doing. But I know I must rest but will go for a very short walk today. xxx
