It is an 'as a matter of interest' question, rather than anything being wrong. I have been on warfarin for 17 years.

This was as a result of an artificial mitral valve replacement at the age of 45. Latterly I have become part of the AF fraternity, but after 2 ablations, like most I count my good fortune. However the dose of warfarin I have pretty much always been on is 12mgs daily to maintain 2.5 - 3.5 range, does anyone know why we all vary so much, the liver is the main processor that i know, and no, I am not Popeye!

Hi Annaelizabeth

I'm not sure anyone can give you a straight answer, at the conference we had a lecture from an expert and even he said "it's complicated".

If you really need to know then a couple of site for you.

thenakedscientists.com/foru...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood...

But you know most of this I am sure, it's the interaction with the liver and therefore our diet etc etc etc.

We are all very very different when it comes to warfarin.

Hope this helps

Ian

Thank you for the reply, I think it will continue to be a mystery to this mere mortal! In Caribbean now for the winter and hate to say the weather is heaven!

Greetings from freezing Wales, rather envious of your nice weather!! Our practice nurse went on a warfarin course, so she was telling me, and when she asked what interfered with warfarin, apparently the expert said 'life'. I've only just gone on to it and only just getting into the right range, but I can see already that practically everything I eat, drink and do has an effect. That's livers for you.

It does seems to be the case, but thank goodness it is there! Thank you for taking the time to reply.
