Just back from my first cardioversion.

Have to say what a relaxed and easy experience it all was! Carried out on a Saturday morning, no parking problems, great medical staff who made me feel special and a result that I hoped for. I was back in SR after the first shock (they will try three times) and ECG showed what was described to me as a 'perfect rhythm.'

OK...I know cardioversion doesn't always do the trick and AF can stick its nose in again - but just now I am ticking over like a well oiled clock and savouring every minute of it! Long may it last. If it doesn't....well...we learn to live with it, don't we!

Hi - Had mine last Wednesday and it was so wonderful to wake from the anaesthetic without my heart flopping about in my chest. I was so grateful to the people who did the cardioversion that I couldn't thank them enough. Fingers crossed that we will both stay in SR.

That's good news Dadog. At least you know it can beat away normally with a bit of persuasion. I remember after my first ablation how great it was to not even really be aware of my ticker, instead of it jumping and a wobbling all over the place.

Good news. If they can put you into NSR it does mean that you still have some good hope. Take it easy.

I had mine done 2 weeks ago today...it's fantastic isn't it. I was really bad with my breathing as well I couldn't walk very far at all. My my it was like a miracle I'm a new woman I'm like fingers crossed I stay in NSR. My heart took a little more persuasion I needed 2 shocks...I always have been a stubborn bugger lol x

Very pleased for you, abihel. I tend to be a bit nervous still and few times each day I check my pulse to make sure things are still settled! I'll get over it! Feeling better every day! Bisoprolol has been reduced from 7.5mg to 5mg so that will help.

You are given a general anaesthetic for a cardioversion (usually only out for 5-10 mins) , so you will know nothing about the procedure until you hopefully wake up in sinus rhythm. Good luck.

Exactly as JJ says. Such a short sleep that you don't know that you have been anaesthetised and wake up feeling fine! Good luck, Denise and hope it all works for you.

Had my first CV today and as others have commented it is such a relief to wake up without that thumping and wobbling in your chest. I was restored to NSR with just one hit, it really is an easy experience.

However I found being in AF so miserable that I never want to go back there, so I have arranged for an ablation in a few weeks.

I am going privately even though I am not insured, my lifestyle means so much more to me than money and I want rid of AF if at all possible.

I will give feedback on my ablation when I have it done.
