I have the Mail. Beatrice is not the first person to have the CryoMAZE procedure. The cardiologists at the Maryland Heart Centre successfully performed the keyhole surgery. The surgeons pioneered the use of cryotherapy to cure atrial fibrillation. The procedure creates electrical barriers in the upper chamber of the heart by applying an Argon powered cold probe. By freezing the tissue to very cold temperatures, electrical activity is permanently blocked. Electrical barriers can be created in 60-90 seconds, thus minimizing the duration of the procedure. The letter I have from Guy's Hospital, dated the 10 October 2005. It states "We believe she would be suitable for surgical closure of her Primum AVSD. During the same operation a Maze procedure will be performed for the atrial fibrillation". I had the surgery in January 2006, the surgeon was Mr David Anderson, Dr I Roussin was the cardiologist who contacted him, I saw her at St Margarets hospital, Epping.. I had a Transoesophageal Echo at Barts hospital 30 October 2003, unfortunately, my cardiologist did not receive the results of those tests, so I had to go through it all again, that was done in Guy's hospital. and the surgery was in 2006. I first started complaining to my GP some years prior to that, before 2000, he thought I needed counselling, I saw another GP, she referred me for tests, turns out I had hypothyroid, I have Bradycardia, for which I take Digoxin. I was born with a hole in the heart did not know about it, I am still alive and kicking and annoyed because the GP I first saw did not refer me for tests.

Good health everyone.

It is a very interesting article - keyhole CryoMAZE, I believe... And Liverpool Chest and Heart is the local specialist hospital for North Wales, which makes me quite happy! I will wave the article at my doc should it get to the stage where surgery is recommended. And thank you very much for highlighting the article.
