Following a "flutter" on Monday, my medication has changed but my pulse is now 53. Is this too low or should I be glad that it is slower.

The important thing is that you don't feel too tired when at rest - if you do it may indicate a lack of oxygen getting to the vital organs which can lead too all sorts of problems.

I don't know whether this is to low for you but I am taking Bisoprolol 5mgs and my pulse ranges between 48 - 57 at rest but usually sticking at 53 .I would like it a few degrees higher ,but as you say it's better than racing at an uncontrollable gallop.

Enjoy, I got worried when my pulse went down into the low 40's. Many (especially those on rate control meds) will have a pulse that runs in the 50's. If you are feeling tired or run down as elmbury said you may not be getting enough oxygen throughout your body. This is a common problem with those on rate control meds. The dosage needed to make a difference during an AF attack is effecting you at all other times also. Rate control meds work all of the time, not only when having an attack. That is why many can not tolerate them. Many years ago they had increased my Metoprolol so much that I could barely move around. My pulse was in the low 40's and I was really tired all of the time. Now on rhythm control meds I have a lot more energy and my heart rate was back into the high 50's to low 60's.

Thank you all so much for your quick responses. I was a little apprehensive as I know it will drop lower when I go to sleep.

What a comfort this site is. I really feel amongst friends who understand the worries that go with having AF.
