Been feeling poorly the last few days.

Decided to phone doctors for a appointment.

The earliest one is next Tuesday

I told the receptionist I have a long term heart problem.

She told me to go to the hospital.

I haven't been to my own doctors for over a year.

Feeling really brassed off

I understand that Kevin, at my doctors non-emergencys appointments at least two weeks, and before Easter I had to wait 3 weeks and 4 days.

However they should have an appointed triage nurse, insist on speaking to her and if you are feeling bad insist on a same day appointment.

Good luck

Ian

I could have seen the nurse tomorrow .

Then she would refer me to the doctor.

You know when you don't want to make a fuss.

I will just take it easy for the next few days.

I am going into AF every day lately for a few hours.

It puts you on a downer.

Kevin mate..

Make that fuss, for your sake, go and see the nurse today just turn up and say you need to see a doctor, if you are having a bad time then you need your GP to know about it and try and help.

Sometimes we are just too "English" for our own good :)

Do let us know how you get on, or if you need to talk, send me a message, I would be more than happy to "offer a shoulder"

Take care

Ian

Well said Ian, things can and do change Kevin. You may just need a medication tweak but you have to see them to find out. All doctors hold some same day appointments tell them you need one before your problem becomes worse. Good luck

So sorry you are feeling rough, it is scary. Have thesurgery got a website - there should be a complaints procedure. But first ring again and ask to speak to the practice manager. Receptionists should not be triaging patients. tell her you would like an appointment ASAP as you are concerned. Lots of people with sore throats and earache will have made a fuss and got an appointment. Next time ring at 8am and when they say is it urgent say yes, there should always be same day appointments available.. We are so lucky with our practice, My daughter has the same problems with appts as you. It really doesn't help does it. If you are really feeling bolshy tell practice you will ring for an ambulance and say the practice advised this. We are 20 miles from the hospital and the cost, of going by emergency ambulance is well over £200 pounds to the practice according to a notice in the surgery!! Money talks.

hi Kevin, please next time stand your ground. We British seem to be scared of asking for help when we truly need it. I live 25 miles from nearest hospital....and although they have a cardiac ward I have to travel to Liverpool to see specialist so when I have a rough patch I ring surgery and tell them that I'll sit on the doorstep if I have to ! AF is bad enough to live with ...I'm in permanent AF now.... without being told you must wait days before seeing doctor. Have got fingers crossed for you....and anyone else who has had same treatment.

Good luck

Nikki

I know how you feel, believe me. Our GP Surgery allows you to book online for appointments but if you need an appointment in a hurry, you are better going to A&E, because the practice has brought in a Telephone Triage system. I went to my Cardiologist on 3/4, wasn't that happy, so went on Practice website but couldn't find appointment until 10/5. My husband, years ago, needed an appointment at his GP Surgery. They gave him an appointment roughly 10 days away and he told them joking, that 'he'd arrange for the hearse to drop him off.'.

Hi Kevin - I usually say -well if I feel even worse I will have to get the doctor to make a home visit. Also you may be able to get a telephone appointment.

Good luck,

Chris

here in ireland the a and e must catch the a fib in action, or send you home feeling like a fool, then your specialist appointment is still months away , mine knows i am on the wrong meds as i did go to a and e , but he agrees on keeping my may 24 appointment as an urgent appointment. i have a blood pressure holter booked to wear for 24 hours on may 1st i dont know if it will speed thing up for me but i hope so . i went at easter to a and e and i am still having a fib daily , it is such a shame they dont listen. when i do see the specialist i will have a letter to put into my chart for him complaining about his treatment of me, but i am not going to get upset .

Hello fellow irish person. I would have had to go to the hospital in limerick to get a halter with no trains running ..get a taxi to limerick? And then back. I said no I'm not risking getting covid from the hospital just to pick up a device that should be available in every county in Ireland to test for those underlying conditions that are oh so important yet being ignored. I waited three years for an ent appointment my friend waited four and when she finally saw him shed gone deaf!! I rang mine and the ent had retired and they just threw me in the bin didn't pass me onto the next ent didn't tell me..just ah he's retired throw the patients appointments in the bin. My mom was to get a ECG monitor and they gave her a bp halter by mistake. She has to wait again. She broke her hip and they sent a home help to her....one year later. !!!!!Thankfully she had broken her hand by then so took her while she could get her. I'm sure its worse to have to pay thousands of pounds a month on insurance but it is so badly mismanaged over here. One person with cop on could do a better job than the 100 eejits passing papers from one to another and not communicating. Sure the health care system is on windows vista lol!!!

I have no trouble getting appointments, although my AF is now stabilised.

About 7 years ago I had a particluarly bad episode of AF, and I was beginning to panic as it hadn't gone away after many hours. I went to the local medical centre, at about 3pm and the receptionist said there were no appointments available, but that she'd speak to a doctor when free between patients. He came to see me, rang the hospital and called an ambulance for me.

Thank you all for your posts. They are very greatly appreciated.

I am feeling a lot better

Although I am permanently in AF I can generally cope quit well.

My blog was about doctors appointments. My doctor's has had a major overhaul the last couple of years.

A new building, television in the waiting area.Electronic notice board informing you to go and see the doctor.Young nurses walking around like cat walk models.Receptionist who talk like old headmistress to their school children.Doctors who seemed to be more interested in their computers than their patients.Appointments are run like a military exercise. When you phone up for a appointment you get a answer phone.Press one for this two for that and so on.At the end if you have not pressed a number you get cut off.

It's all very high technology but their missing the basic"how are you"I might be old fashioned but I only go or phone the doctors when I am sick. And if you cannot get an appointment what is the point. Why should the hospitals have to bail out the GPS of basic appointments? It's the old saying fur coat no knickers.

I sound like a moaner but I am a easy going fella.

Cheers kevin

Gp wouldn't probably have had the ability to see the afib anyway. They only did ECG on me for three minutes. I would have had to go to hospital for a 24 hour one. But I didn't want to risk getting covid or something else on top of everything.

I know what you are going through. But as the saying goes. It's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease. And I will be a lot more vocal at my next appointment. After being diagnosed with af just three months ago I was given warfarin and flecianide and told to come back in three months time. And that was that. I was a bag of nerves for the first week or so, too scared to sleep just waiting for the worse. My point is no one told me who to ring if af kick in again? Every twinge I had, I didn't know if I should go to the hospital or my doctors?? I just wish there was more understanding in the NHS as the

the fear some of us go through

in reply to djroute66

They didn't do a single causal investigation into the cause? Just here's pills go away? Man the more I hear the less I like. I drank water and took magnesium and sorted my issue out so far so good hasn't come back. I'm glad they didn't diagnose me I'd have been just handed pills and still have a magnesium deficiency undiagnosed and getting worse. Crazy.

That's good are you kidding me??? That's lnly four working days away!!! That's ring Monday get Friday. ....I had to wait weeks!!!
