Chris Doucette, aka skiingfiend on this forum, passed away on Sept. 4 from his neuro endocrine prostate cancer. he was 64.
We met a while ago , forming a small support group. Had several meetings where Chris told us about trying to beat this but he knew he couldn’t. He tried everything. I admired his tenacity. He was active until the cancer made it impossible. He loved skiing as his handle says.
He was very intelligent and made his living writing programs that we all use or have used. He was adamant about leaving his wife with everything organized and I’m sure he did. He had no children.
Randy - if you could add his name to your tablet, that would be great.

I met Chris once. He lived and worked in the same province that I do. Chris was a very accomplished individual with a variety of interests. He was a free-style skier, musician, computer programmer, software analyst, university lecturer to just name a few. There was very little Chris could not do. My condolences go out to his wife and family.
Sorry to read this. I figured something was up since he stopped replying to our private chats.Peace brother Chris. Prayers and condolences to his wife and family.
He sounds like he was a very courageous and generous guy. An example which I hope I can follow.
It’s early morning and I am ruminating. There is a post today in Quora showing a NASA photo of huge numbers of stars and one of our own Milky Way. It reminded me that the chemical elements of our bodies were formed in the heart of stars which exploded in super novae scattering those chemical elements, leading to the weird miracle of life on our planet. From stars we came and ultimately to stars we may return.
We are born, we die and what matters is what we do in our brief blink of existence.
God bless this dear man he sounds like he was very brave. We all try and defeat the monster we live with. Let's hope we win the battle l try on a daily basis . Sheilafxx
I hope the family finds some peace in this event. Sounds like Chris was quite an individual and will be hard to forget. My family's condolences to his. Godspeed sir.
while difficult as it is on this issue I am truly saddened that this road leaves no options at times but as who you are in this tenuous times shows 10 fold and that said thanks for your support for these precious moments May he rest..
May the memory of Chris the Skiing Fiend be for a blessing. I just looked up some of his posts and they were so solid and based. As they say, a universe is lost. That we should meet again ...
Thanks for sharing this gsun. I just learned that Chris worked for a while at DEC ("Digital Equipment Corporation"), as did I. The story of his life was very moving.
Thank you gsun for letting us know. I am deeply saddened by this. I occasionally check this site to check up on you guys. He is one who has been heavy on my mind. Not seeing anything from him recently had me concerned. Rest in peace Chris skiingfiend. My deepest condolences to his wife and family. He fought hard and bravely.
I never knew him as much as the rest of this group but he gave me moments of joy. I hope his wife has many joyful memories of him and all they did in the short time they had together.
Sounds like Chris Doucette left his god given gift to society for others to use. We all have a god given gift we can share with others if we so choose to use that gift. As those who have the gift of knowledge and helps on a platform for those who are suffering. Thank you all who offer support to those who reach out.
Chris Doucette peace at last. You fought the good fight.
My dad passed also from PC on Sept 21st. He was 80 and was diagnosed in 2019 and told he had 5 years to live. Think he would have beat that as he was scheduled to get Radium 223 for free at an NHS hospital in April. Sadly he tried to ski for last time in March and broke both bones in his leg within a few minutes of putting on skis.
Being unable to walk and drive pushed him over the edge and he lost a lot of weight so oncologist couldn't do anymore treatment. By september he deeply regretted going skiing, especially when his GP put him on a syringe driver which literally put him to sleep. Doctor said they put him on driver because he couldn't swallow, and therefore might catch pneumonia and die if something went down the wrong tube!!!.
Never heard such rubbish. Telling someone that if they persisted in giving someone food and fluids they risked person dying of pneumonia. Logically no food and drink is more likely to kill you than pneumonia at that point.
So I continued to feed him and he COULD swallow. I was working towards getting morphine reduced and removing driver. Sadly I was too late in, undoing the damage the morphine driver had done.
i'm a PC patient's daughter and I joined this site to help him. It did help me greatly. I will remain active.
Caring hugs and thoughts to all those battling through this awful disease and to the loved ones here trying to keep their husbands, brothers, dads, alive.
Hopefully one day they will find a cure for this horrendous illness that afflicts so many men..🙏
Dear Lemonpower, please accept my sincerest condolences on the passing of your Dear Father. May the angels watch over him as he rests knowing that he had a wonderful daughter who loved and watched over him. God Bless.
