A little exercise, more than a little benefit!

So, I am 18 months since diagnosis (csPCa with mucho bone mets). Presently on 6-month Lupron and Nubeqa. A couple of months ago, I committed to get serious about exercise to the extent I could given my age (85!) and a terrible left knee.

I have been going to the gym 5 times a week with a very modest little exercise routine: 40-minutes on recumbant bike with level 4 resistance, then three weight machine exercises. I do the standing exercise where I pull down a bar from overhead to belly-button (30 pounds), chest press machine (also 30 pound weights), finally biceps curl machine with 30 pound weights. Folks, I know the weights are embarrassingly low, but I can do it.

The results: notable (and noticable to my sweet wife) increased energy and a lot more initiative to get up and do stuff. I am encouraged by getting real results from such a wimpy workout.

Cheers to all y’all!

Rob

There's nothing wimpy about your work out, that is an awesome work out for an 85 year old. 40 minutes on the bike and then working out your arms, five times a week....you are the man. Congratulations.

🤗 Happy for you

Reading your post I am going to make dad also go to the gym from tomorow.

The xtandi makes him dull and is losing muscle mass fast.

Similar here, 45 minutes almost daily, 9 Matrix machines, 30 reps on each. Started low 3 months ago and increased weights to maintain level of effort. Leg press 260, chest press 50, overhead press 35, seated row 75, lateral pull down 75, back extension 150, abdominal curl 180, biceps curl 60, triceps press 75. Never did exercise in my life, but it makes a big difference now to ward off the effects of the meds. I have high energy and no fatigue. .

If you are interested in the exercise part, let me say that I don't do 30 reps straight. I do 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30 second rest after the first and second set to let the muscles recover.

Oh yes, that’s exactly what I do (3 X 10). If I tried to do thirty in a row, my spindly old arms would snap off and lie on the floor like popsicle sticks! 😵‍💫

Thanks for the watchful eye!

I'm proud of you, Rob. It's not trivial to begin to exercise. I'm 70, but my running partner is 83 and did a full marathon last December. I have done a few half marathons in the past year. That's enough for me. The only thing I might suggest is that you pick up some exercise thing that inspires you. Most of it is geared toward young people, but there is plenty of other stuff too.

Best wishes,

Michael Penny

Amen! Here is my story...the need to exercise, at any age, in any way you can is so important that it defies our collective promotion. If you have PCa and are not exercising please consider starting ASAP...anything is better than nothing, sooner than later and more than less...as NIKE would say...TNX Rick

On LUPRON for about two years.........then doctors switched me out of Lupron into Eligard (22.5 mg. injected every three months)- where I've remained the last 4-5 years. Lupron had no side effects, but didn't do the job.
