Exercise right after Zometa infusion?

My husband (diagnosed May 2024) is on Abiraterone and Lupron and receives Zometa infusions monthly. What are people’s experiences with working out right after an infusion? He hasn’t done it to date but he’s scheduled for both one day this week. According to what I find on Google, it is not recommended but have any of you done it? Results? Thank you in advance for any input.

I do not workout the same day but only because I like to workout in the morning but I have also my infusion in the morning, and between the bloodwork that they give me, the therapy and then driving home, the morning is gone! But I do other kinds of work and keep active in the afternoon (clearing the garden, moving stuff and so on).

Maxone is it possible for you to switch to Xgeva? Between the blood draw and injection I'm out in about 1 hour.

Not at the moment but it would not change much 😃 to have my blood drawn i must be at the hospital between 7 and 7:45 am, then for example today I had my meeting with the oncologist at 9:45, then the therapy at 10:15, it lasts about 20 minutes, everything before that is what eats my morning away! 😝 and I am lucky because I need to drive for more than one hour to reach the hospital but my sister lives like 10 minutes away from it, so I have breakfast and spend some time at her place while I wait!

Thank you all - this is great and we both appreciate it. We’re going to go for it and hope all goes well. It’s so important neither of us want to miss a workout if possible.

Everyone on this forum is so helpful and supportive and the vast knowledge and experience is amazing. We are so glad we found you!

Did your husband have a dexascan prior to starting Zometa? If yes, what was the T-score and Z-score?

No, he did not. Full body skeletal scan, bone biopsy, MRIs. Substantial bone mets. So we don’t have a T-score or Z-score.

My partner is beginning the same medical regiment as you describe this coming week. Ultra PSA every 30 days as well. PET scan in 3 months.

Just to follow up, my husband had the Zometa infusion for an hour this time (longer than usual) and then we immediately worked out with our trainer with heavy weights. He still had flu symptoms from early morning Saturday to about 11 AM but Tylenol and extra sleep resolved them and he still feels fine today.

The last 2 times he had the flu symptoms and some bone pain later the same day and again 2 days later. So it did get it over with faster. Next time we work out in the AM and infusion in the afternoon so we’ll see how that goes. Working out may or may not affect it. Thanks again.

I am on the same routine and have not had a reaction to any kind of physical activity after treatment.

Thanks - good to know. Not sure why he did but the infusions have been after the workout for awhile and that works well. We’ll see how it goes if the order changes. Good to see you are 84 and still doing this. My husband is a healthy 80 (except for the PCa of course) and we are hoping for a long time ahead with decent QOL.
