One of the fun things I am getting as an SE while on lupron/abiraterone/prednisone is fluid retention. Edema and getting up to pee 3-4 times nightly (losing 3-4 lbs of weight during the night.) What if anything can be done about this?

Discuss increasing prednisone.

Discuss adding eplerenone to block the excess of aldosterone which is causing the edema.

Are you on a blood pressure medication. Some types, especially calcium channel blockers can make odema worse. Taking a diuretic blood pressure medication in the morning might help. Discuss with MO.Also try putting your legs up an hour or two before going to bed.

My hubby is also battling edema. He has been prescribed diuretics, which are helping. Compression socks are a must! Wish we had been more consistent about them at first, when it was not so bad. We had to move into the medical grade (prescription only) full length stockings and these are a challenge to get on every day. But they work!!

Place a large mouth "piss" bottle next to your bed.... Get up, piss in, go right back to sleep.

p.s. Don't forget to empty the bottle when you're finally awake.

j-o-h-n I'm surprised you didn't suggest Depends.

Yes, You got me. Thank you.

Addendum to the piss bottle solution specified above: Make sure you remove your depends when it's time to leave a piss...... (Important note: You always want to leave a piss you never want to take one).

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

I was taking a calcium channel blocker, Amlodipine, and had to quit because of that. I now take Lisinopril and hctz. I also take 2800 mg of curcumin and 350 to 400 mg of magnesium daily. I measure my water intake and drink at least 72 oz. of non caffeinated drinks daily. The water flushes the excess sodium out of the body. I think the water is important. My numbers are all good and my kidney gfr is 117.5 Also I take no calcium supplements.

I do hope things have improved for you. I am also 69 years old Male on Zytiga for Prostate with pelvic Lymph node metastases'. One of my side effects is Edema and yes, I have to pee 3-4 times a night. I have found using compression hose certainly helps with the visible swelling, but it is still there. I have found using ice packs on my ankles for about 15 minutes before bed stops the ankle pain. Anyway I have not found any other relief, and my MO does not provide much for any help on the side effects. I went thru radiation, 28 rounds then 3 rounds on my periaortic lymph nodes, Finished about a month ago. Just got current PSA of 0.04. I am due for another Lupron in 2 months and plan on being off the Zytiga 3 months after that. Either by the choice of the MO or my choice. Between the edema and higgh blood pressure (I think it is having a detrimental effect on my cardiac system), i wil be done for at least a while one way or another.
