Looking for information on tips to survive a second treatment of chemo. I will be starting 10 rounds of chemo soon. What should I do to help get through this again. I did 6 rounds at the beginning of diagnosis. I know about the ice gloves for the hands. Not sure they worked as I still have problems with numbness in my hands and feet. Should I get flu and covid shots before starting treatments. PSA is at 106 and Mets are spreading. Can't wait for a trial.
Thanks

Apart from frozen socks and gloves, many people on here recommend fasting before and after sessions to protect healthy cells. 1-2 days before and 1 day after. Ref Valter Longo who has written a lot on this topic.
I expect to have chemo soon and plan to take all these precautions. Good luck.
Valter Longo is a good source (always promoting fellow Italians!). I had the same problems with flu/covid shots, if you have time before you start chemo, do them...I did not have time and the MO said they are useless and dangerous (if live vaccine) once you started with chemo. I actually had only two rounds of chemo till today (newly diagnosed).
Try to get into this trial since you are CR, looks very promising also from an adverse effect perspective: annalsofoncology.org/articl...
They are fast tracking to phase 3 but still recruiting for phase 2. They have presented their latest numbers yesterday evening at ESMO 2023. Very advanced and targeted treatment.
The vaccinations need about two weeks to start having much effect, but chemo will weaken your immune system quickly and dramatically, so whether getting those shot is worthwhile depends on what you mean by "soon." Regardless, be meticulous about your hygiene and other self-care so that you strengthen and protect your immune system as much as you can. It is pretty common to read about patients getting treatments like Neulasta in addition to the chemo, to try to help boost their immune system.
About a year ago, a member of HU, AlvinSD, wrote a post: "Docetaxel Chemo: What Helped Me..." I think a lot of us copied and saved it and the link. Here it is. Well worth the time to read: healthunlocked.com/advanced...
