My husband was told by his doctor that his prostate cancer might have spread to the bone marrow. He is waiting to have Bone marrow biopsy done. Has anyone had their cancer spread to the marrow and what type of treatment have you done?

cancer spread to bone marrow
Yes, we dealt with this. Some small group of PC seems to create lytic lesions. His doctors raised the possibility of multiple myeloma. The treatment is much the same, although you'll have a hematological specialist added to the team.Lytic lesions eat bone. My husband's arm snapped after the cancer ate a whole in the long bone. Please make sure they are specifically monitoring bone health. I'm so sorry - one more stress you didn't ask for.
Thank you. Yes the stress is a lot! I’m praying this is not the case but am preparing for whatever comes next.
My husband had a lot of weird hematological quiets, I causing sky high ferratin. In the end, it wasn't a new cancer, but the same (aggressive) cancer snacking on bone so aggressively it reached the marrow. His doctors professed to have "never seen this before."
I'm not kidding about the bones. My husband was doing ok, other than aches, and went shopping. Put two tomatoes in a bag, twisted it to close it and broke his arm. Most PCs harden bones, so docs are not always looking out for lytic lesions. Our world-class leader in PC declared without checking that my husband was young, his bones were strong, and no reason to worry.
What type of treatment did your husband have once they discovered it in the bone marrow? Our doctors told us that he would go on taxotere and a platinum chemo at the same time.
Unfortunately, nothing worked for him. He did a clinical trial with a platin chemo and one of the next gen androgen blockers, but the cancer spread through the lymph system once the arm broke.
Have they talked about Pluvecto? Or tried a PaRP inhibitor? I would look at clinical trials.
Yes I have. The biopsy proved out to be plasmacytoma, not prostate cancer. Now it's multiple myeloma. Come back with the biopsy results. My Doctor down at Mayo thought the same as yours. I came back home, visited my oncologist and got a biopsy. No point in discussing treatment until they confirm the results.
My husbands cancer spread to bone marrow during Pluvicto treatment. Because Pluvicto failed and he has had every other treatment we have no further options available. We can’t say it wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t had Pluvicto, but his bloods are now so poor despite fortnightly transfusions, he is not fit enough to try Docetaxel again, which the MO said could have been an option. He is 68 years old and been fighting PC for 8 years.
I'm so sorry for your struggle. This disease is so horrible. My husband is only 59. I'm praying that his has not spread.
Pluvicto destroyed my hemoglobin and platelets. I'm so anemic now I need transfusions almost every week. Pretty disappointed my oncologist let me go 5 sessions. If he would have stopped after 4, I wouldn't be in this mess
Ask if he needs neulasta w. The chemo
Is this something that will help with the spread to the marrow?
No but typically they'll give this to help stimulate the bone marrow into making white blood cells. To prevent infection and fevers. Sometimes they forget to give it, so it's better to ask if needed
I never had a biopsy. I relied on PSMA pet scans to find the three oligomets in bones and zapped them with SBRT.
My husbanded aggressive prostrate cancer. After chemo failed they tried xofigo. He could not finish the treatments as his platelets were dropping. They were going to do immunotherapy but his platelets were dropping so fast that his oxygen levels were dropping. We had to rush to emergency and they did a blood transfusion and platelet transfusions. The platelet transfusions were not lasting and his platelets dropped to 2. He passed less than a week later. They said they believed the cancer spread to his marrow. The only way to know for sure was an MRI. There was no more to do. He would not have been eligible for a transplant. At first we thought the xofigo might be affecting the platelets and once the infusions were complete, they would gradually start to rise. Unfortunately that was not the case. I wish your husband the very best of outcomes
