New ED Gell FDA Approved

From the Harvard Health Newsletter;

Men will soon have a new option for treating erectile dysfunction (ED) that supposedly works faster than regular ED medication — and is available without a prescription. In June, the FDA approved the over-the-counter sale of MED3000 (Eroxon), a topical gel treatment for ED. MED3000 is supplied in single-use tubes. The contents are rubbed onto the head of the penis immediately before sexual intercourse.

The gel contains a combination of volatile solvents which, when applied to the head of the penis, evaporate rapidly, stimulating nerve endings through an initial cooling effect, followed by a warming sensation. This reaction releases nitric oxide, relaxing the smooth muscle tissue inside the penis and increasing blood flow that is needed to obtain an erection.

Clinical trials found that 65% of men who used MED3000 achieved an erection within 10 minutes and maintained it long enough to have sex. Common prescription ED drugs like tadalafil (Cialis) and sildenafil (Viagra) take around 30 minutes to work. The common side effects of MED3000 were headaches and nausea, but these occurred in only 1% to 3% of men. No side effects were reported among sexual partners. U.S. prices are not yet available, but in the United Kingdom, where Eroxon is already available over-the-counter, the cost is equivalent to about $32 (U.S.) for a four-pack.

Interesting. Now I have to calculate which meds I can cut out in order to save the $64 a week I'm going to be spending out of pocket.

in reply to Carlosbach

$64 gets you a massage with a happy ending!! No chemicals!

Mr. T, After 3 years on ADT, I'd be happy if $64 bought me a cheerful beginning

Off topic….but I noticed in your profile that you lost 60 lbs on a vegetarian diet…..was that after or before beginning ADT?

When I received my diagnosis I started on Casodex immediately and then transitioned to Lupron/Zytiga after a month. Two days after getting the call from my doc confirming my lung mets I changed to a vegitarian diet and intensified my walking. It was in the heart of the pndemic, so with not much going on I found and hiked trails all over NW Oregon and SW WA. After the first year I changed to pescetarian and added in Weight lifting.

This year I really struggled with emotional SE's from the Lupron and I lost my focus. I put back on 13 lbs around my gut, which I am in the process of losing. Much harder this time.

Three guys in my support group tried it (one guy brought it back after a trip to England). They all reported that it did nothing. The ingredient list seems to indicate it is just ethanol in a gel base (like expensive hand sanitizer). I suspect the high price tag and the cooling effect of the alcohol creates a placebo effect.

Confirms EXACTLY what I thought when I read it! Was hoping someone here had tried it. Thank you TA!

I just wish there was a good way to replace the length of urethra that gets removed at surgery!

Tall_Allen profile image
Tall_Allen in reply to Shorter

Why? If the issue is size loss, it has nothing to do with the length of the urethra, although that is a common misconception. The bladder gets pulled down, the penis does not get pulled up. The size loss is from tissue atrophy from hte loss of innervation.

Allen, I have a world of respect for you, but we have discussed this before. I didn't have a penis with reduced length from atrophy due to inactivity. Mine was trying to pull inside out to the point of pain whenever I would try to sit down. I even retired early because I couldn't work like that. It was causing me to squirt every time I sat down as well. I stood most of the time and didn't sit.

The lead surgeon that did my sex reassignment surgery in Kansas City told my wife when I was in recovery that no one on their team had ever seen what they found inside of me when they operated on me. They were surprised that I functioned as well as I did. They said my urethra was stretched out like a rubber band inside of me.

I may be the only one in the world who has ever experienced this, but I doubt it. The surgeon that did my RARP indicated that I would likely lose 1/2 inch or less before he did the surgery. My RARP lasted 5 hours, twice what the doctor estimated. I would have given my pickup to him if he had only removed 2 inches. Then again, maybe he deserves jail time?

I recall now. You may have already answered this, forgive me if you have: do you have some sort of anatomical blockage in your pelvis that prevents your bladder from descending?

Shorter profile image
Shorter in reply to Tall_Allen

I don't know for sure Allen, but because I had to have my pelvis radiated for a recurrence in less than 2 years with a doubling time of 3 months, and that pretty much blocked every door but one. I mentioned the test you told me about at the time, but my new urologist/oncologist didn't think it would really help to know at that point. He felt, as did I that the direction I was going was probably my best option. I talked to literally hundreds of people, and you were the only person that finally listened and recommended the possibility that I had a blockage preventing my bladder from dropping. I went to a urologist that does implants, and the look on his face when he examined me told me I was above his paygrade. I did later manage to meet a 30+year retired MAYO Clinic research doctor and I learned a lot about anatomy and other things. We spent 4 days one on one talking.

There was nervousness on the surgical team that did fix me about whether or not what they did would heal right. I had to talk to 3 shrinks over the course of a year to get the surgery. No matter what the media says, they don't just give these surgeries away easily. Honestly at that time, I didn't want to live with what I had, and I was on cloud 9 for months after my surgery in Kansas City. I am still certain that it was my best option.

Ugh! I think you told me all this at the time, but my memory isn't what it used to be, my apologies. I'm glad that you found at least something to give you a normal(ish) life, or at least it's something it sounds like you've made peace with.

Shorter profile image
Shorter in reply to Tall_Allen

Yes, my life has changed significantly, but at least I'm not in constant pain. I don't know what normal is anymore. My memory has become much worse as well. I don't know how much is from age and how much is from not having testosterone for 3 years. Plus, I just had SBRT again for cancer returning a third time.

If I haven't said it before, I want to say thank you Allen for what you do. At least now I know enough to have an intelligent conversation with my oncologist.

Yeah….you’re not alone there! I wish that the industry would offer “Penile Transplants”. A fresh cadaver penis might fill the bill. My once proud 7”+ member is now maybe a sad atrophied 1-2” incher after Open RP and almost 30 years of inactivity. My uro surgeon never explained the indwelling catheter I would be left with after surgery, let alone any “Penile Rehab”, a term which didn’t even exist back then. Viagra was the only ED drug under investigation and not available to the public then either.

I know that it is doable, ref: John and Lorena Bobbitt’s case. His amputated penis was reattached, fully functional, and he went on to star in Porn. Why couldn’t that be offered to those without other options? Not enough microsurgeons? Costs? PR?

Might be a huge moneymaker for any hospital or clinic offering that service!

Just dreaming.

I just read your reply. Wild. Did your surgeon add, or delete your dick? I just went and watched the first of three porn flicks made by John Wayne Bobbitt, “Letha Weapons” over on Xvideos.com, (lead actress was named Letha), directed and cameo’d by Ron Jeremy (I’d bet most guys here know him.) Bobbitt had his original length back, not so turgid, but enough to achieve penetration and full ejaculation. It is certainly possible, medically. Maybe a one-two hour operation to install an implant, and possible vendor kickbacks from the manufacturers are too lucrative to pass-up, rather than a several hour reattachment/transplant microsurgery.

Just dreaming again.

Did a clean sweep. I had aggressive cancer, so I shut down the testosterone factories as well. You can usually stitch a urethra back together, but there are sometimes some complications at the joint. I scoured the Internet and medical journals, land mine survivors, female to male transgender people, etc. I found out the FTM transgender people seldom do what I thought because of the number of surgeries required and the complication rate. I turned over every rock I could think of and talked to probably a thousand people. Even became good friends with a retired MAYO clinic research doctor. Adding urethra didn't seem like a good option, especially after I had radiation. The radiation did burn my urethra. Adding to this, my bladder probably didn't drop like it does for most. The surgeon that fixed my problem said my urethra was the correct length for a female, and they didn't cut anything off of it to get there, so now I still use the men's room, but sit to pee. Add to that my small boobs from ADT and maintenance estrogen, I have now joined one of the most hated groups in America.

A clean sweep meaning you no longer have a penis I take it. Did you have full reasignment surgery? My son is now my daughter so I know what is going on! She did the full everything including facial feminization. She is now happy, beautiful and alive!

I hate that you said you are now in the most hated group. That is so sad but in a way true.

Shorter profile image
Shorter in reply to gsun

I had the zero-depth surgery, which from what I understand, about 1/3 of the MTF surgeries are. I am married to my wife who is my soulmate, so I have no need of the full reassignment. I am nervous when I have to use a public restroom in my area.

I met many transgender and Intersex people who are now my friends. I won't go all political since this is not the place, but there is a pretty sizeable group that are in both categories. This is a very much misunderstood issue, especially because of activists on both sides. Just saying the word transgender can cost you friends, family, church, and even a job. Most people don't know anything about Intersex, but they are all around us.

I am happy your daughter has found peace and happiness. My 40+ year marriage was pretty rocky for awhile, but is good again. Life goes on. Just wish the cancer didn't.
