Chinese herb

Astragalus (derived from Astragalus membranaceus root) is a Chinese herb which is purported to have anticancer properties for prostate cancer. I am considering it in a 450 mg supplement available thru Natures Plus.

I am concerned about the safety of doing so, and of course about its effectiveness. Anyone with an opinion please advise.

Wonderful adaptogen herb.. I have used TCM (traditional Chinese medicine for years) I don't have any web information but just as one who uses it. My Husband, with PCa uses it as a natural therapy for cancer along with his ADT therapy and subsequent drugs, His Oncologist recommends. His drs know I have him on this Neutracutical and is fine with it, but I would recommend you ask your physicians advice., because we are all different.💜As

As we live in Hong Kong, Chinese medicine is commonly used as a complementary therapy for treating serious diseases like cancer and an alternative option for treating minor diseases like cold, flu, allergy, insomnia etc. My husband has been using Chinese medicine for years. In order to get the suitable herbs combination and amount, we consult licensed Chinese medicine doctors specialized in treating cancer for the prescription. Just one herb will not have much benefit IMO. However, if you view Astragalus as an antioxidant in boosting your immunity, you can give it a try, else it might be better for you to spend the money on something else.

Given the great gap between Traditional and Western medicine "purported' may be the best you can do.

My naturopath recommended Astragalus for me over a year ago along with Ashwaganda and several other herbs. I am also receiving Docetaxel and Lupron. My PSA has been moving in the right direction (46 to 0.14). I have had no negative effects from the Astragalus (at least that I am aware of), so I am happy with my overall treatment to this point. The effect of Astragalus alone on my PSA reduction is not clear, but the overall regimen is working. I with you the best in your journey!

I buy most of my supplements through Wellevate per the recommendation of my naturopath. Not always the best prices, but you know you are getting good quality.

There may be some lab study, but sorry to say I can find nothing on astralagus and prostate cancer in humans, and little on other cancers either. If I have missed something please let me know.....

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
