Testing Interruption of Hormonal Medications in Patients Responding Exceptionally to Therapy for Metastatic Prostate Cancer, (A-DREAM) NCT05241860

Peeps who know how to post a link can assist me with that. I am not in the trial but I skipped my 6 month lupron shot in June 2022. On June 3, 2022 I took my last abiraterone. Still testing <0.01. Feeling much better after 4+ years of treatment even though my T has only recovered to 50 so far. Scary? You bet. A lot of guys have taken "vacations" and reported here. So I'm checking in too. I definitely had brain fog and it is definitely gone. Hot flashes are reduced but not gone. Fatigue factor is way down but I "sleep" about 9 hours. Thought I'd lose some weight but that has not happened. Tackling that next after I have some ice cream tonight. Life is short. Eat dessert first.

It's the Dream trial. It's a dream to be off meds.

I’m happy that you feel better … vacations are risky for #4 . IMHO , I’m on one after 8 yrs adt ,and 7 yrs clear . Will pc come back ? Hell yah ! If we live long enough. Enjoy feeling better! Good luck !

My dad was told to decide about this trial by January. His doctor is leading the trial. He feels pretty minimal effect from the medications, it feels needlessly risky to me. Is it selfish that it makes me so nervous?

My wife is scared to death of me being off all meds. You are not selfish at all. The trial is for patients who responded exceptionally. If your Dad is one of those he should certainly consider it. I'm almost 17 months in and feel so much better. No one knows what will happen tomorrow. My thought is that if/when my PSA rises, I'll either go back on my treatments ( lupron + abiraterone) or try estradiol mono therapy. Wishing you continued undetectable.

Thanks for that. It’s my dad, he’s scared too. He doesn’t feel like the meds have been so bad. It felt like pre- meds his PSA rose so fast, I worry that would happen again and be hard to manage.

Do you think it helps you stay out of treatment resistance longer?

I of course have no way of knowing for sure but that is one of the theories -don't keep doing the same thing and wait for resistance. Mix things up. It could also just allow the cancer that's in remission to come back stronger. Mindfulness helps me not to have that thought too often. I just read my original post again. I have now lost 18 pounds and workout stronger than ever. I'll be 70 in January. How old is your Dad?
