On a lighter note, right down from the Museum was The Grove shopping and the Farmer's Market

Pretty packed there, lotta fancy stores that I've never ever been in. The Farmer's Market was pretty packed with people, but the prices there were insane. Had a Red Ale there and watched a band named Hassbeat with Josefina, an excellent Argentinian singer

Then stopped at Pink's Hot dogs, the line was huge, so I placed an order online. Kaliber I had a Chicago Dog - it was delish but messy

Too sentimental for me to pass up. I’m sure there will be days I curse myself for the decision, but it’s something I have to do.

It was Brian’s and his children are selling it to me for a ridiculously good price. They’ve been kind to me.

So many memories. Jeepers are actually pretty fun bunch overall.

We loved spreading the joy. I’ll continue on.

to Zengal79,

Many moons ago when I was in the army. 3 of my buddies and I saw a (WWII or Korean War jeep issue) with two officers sitting in it (open top type jeep). Apparently the jeep had stalled out, so they asked as for a push. They were on a grassy very steep upwards incline. Sure enough the four of us pushed the jeep uphill with the officers sitting in it and then the driver popped the clutch and it started in 5 seconds. Now that's the kind of Jeep I want, not those fancy cars they call jeeps.

Safe driving with your Jeep.

I love Jeeps , I’ve owned a few over the years. Last one was a brown CJ-7 in the 1980s. 36” , very wide, off-road tires, , 7” lift kit, Warn hubs , cammed up chevy 350 motor, 16 forward and 4 reverse , big CB whip antenna. Warn winch in front. I was a member of the local V.A. Medical Center Jeepsters off-road club and we did the Spanish trail outing every winter. It was great fun but you had to get out in the slosh and engage the warn hubs and it didn’t have a/c , a critical necessity here in the valley where 100f days are the norm. It would smoke the tires easily but I repaired the locked rear end many times from drag racing it.

Today I have a high end ( half paid for by GM n a lemon law settlement. ) Silverado 4X4 Z71 HD advanced off-road package. Totally computer traction and towing controlled. ( 6 forward speeds X high 4X , low 4x and granny 4X …. shockingly different and more capable than my great old 80s CJ. Course my Silverado is over 30 years newer than the CJ …. off-road abilities came a long way in that period of time. My type truck is what all the Sierra forrest rangers drive.

I’ve rarely used it off road, no one wants to beat up a truck that cost “ that “ much , on off-road trails. It’s 12 years old now, only has 52,000 miles on it.

Keep on truck’in brother 😂😂😂

Fun! I doubt I’ll ever get the doors off the thing. We never tried and I watched some videos.. no way can I do that on my own. I am also only 4’11, so no lift kit for me! I already have to climb up into the darn thing. I was still pretty sick when he got it. He bought me a step stool so I get get in.🤣 It was a major victory day when I was able to climb in without it!

He started declining the first Spring after his purchase. It was nice to have the top off feel when he couldn’t ride the motorcycle anymore.

It has the automatic top, so I can just push a bottom and go “top off” so that I will certainly make use of. And somehow the thing can parallel park itself too… gonna take me awhile to figure out all the extras. I didn’t care much for the automatic cruise assist. I swear the damn thing wishes to drive itself. Kinda like your truck… it’ll probably never really go off roading😂

Here’s the picture he sent me when he bought it. We never gave it a name… we tossed some ideas around… nothing stuck.

it certainly looks beautiful and , being a Jeep, is obviously well equipped . I love that color. I’m 6’ but my body is so messed up , now , that I have a lot of trouble just getting into my pickup . Sometimes I have to use a step stool I carry in the back seat … as well. Yayahahahaya

I love that automatic top feature. I carry a lot of stuff around with me, that space in back would be essential and it looks plentiful. Plenty of room for fishing gear etc. . This would be a way better vehicle for my needs these days than a pickup truck.

I had to sell my Harley back about 3 years ago when my bone damage and density got to a risky point . First time since I was a teenager that I don’t own a motorcycle or two. I really know your disappointment not riding anymore. We have a surprisingly lot of common interests. Probably way more than this . Yayahahahaya

Those little stools come in handy! Sorry you’re struggling. I know what it’s like becoming debilitated myself. Fortunately, I’m doing much better. It was hard for my Brian to see that bike in garage and not be able to ride it. I seem to recall you mentioning selling yours before. Have you considered a trike? He was, but we didn’t get there.

You’re right, tons of cargo room in the jeep, plus the back seat. I plan to camp out of it a lot this summer much to the horror of my loved ones. I also love to fish, but have never done it on my own. My grandpa took me a lot when I was little.

I am also going to learn to ride in the fall. Had 2” added to the soles of my boots. Gentleman at the Harley dealer hooked me up with a cobbler that many of their short riders use. Again, everyone is certain I have lost my mind. Not sure that I’ll actually buy a bike, but I am taking the course and see how it feels. Brian was all for me learning to ride. No one else gets it. Lol. Fuck ‘em.😂

Kaliber profile image
Kaliber in reply toZengal79

I’ve thought about a trike , and I do have a Hardley-A-Davidson ( my joking name for it ) “ etrike “ I transport and ride. I can ride it in bike lanes 25-30 mph and hike&bike trails. And I can throw a couple of switches and drive it , .5 mph , in stores . Problem is I have to travel ( just around town even ) with portable toilet facilities close by …. this in addition to my fragile skeletal bone issue. Stuff stacks against me for a hog, but it still makes my heart leap every time I hear one roar off into the distance.

Definitely, absolutely , learn to ride and get out there and do it. The experience of twisting that grip on a big bore hog … the power, the crushing g-force, the road thunder …. as pure of a life enriching, soul touching experience as there is. Yayahahahaya. You don’t give a damn what other people say, …. they have no idea what your experience will be, ….. live free, ride free … it’s a creed that really means something.

Brother Kal, I've got an '82 FXRS that I bought new when I was 27... It still looks like the day I bought it. We moved over the summer and I trailered the bike. When unloading down the ramp I lost footing and gently laid 'er down, no damage at all, but the thing is I scrambled into position to upright that bike and for the life of me I could not lift it...

The nextdoor neighbor who I hadn't met yet happened to be walking his dog down the street and saw me struggling and we got 'er up... But then it hit me, in the 4 decades I've owned that bike I've never laid it down due to losing my footing... I had a few times where I lost a bit o'balance at stop lights when I was young on it, but could always quickly recover before it went down to point of no return...

So realizing this likely occurred because of the ADT fatigue and the fact that I may be getting too old to ride at 68, I decided to sell the scooter, solely because my mind tells me I'm old, slowly dying and perhaps it's time to close out the motorcycle chapter of my life.... BUT! Having just read your post here, I found it impactful....so much so that I've decided that my baby's no longer for sale.... Springtime, she's a comin .... me and the old lady's gonna do some ridin' brother... With thanks to you for helping me see the other side of the coin... 🤗👍😅✝️🙏

Kaliber profile image
Kaliber in reply toGSDF

I’ve had that happen too. In front of a coffee shop , downtown … I put one foot down to balance it and kicked out the kickstand with the other ….. there was an oil slick from dripping cars in that spot and my “ down “ foot slipped right out and the bike fell over. Luckily there were several citizens that ran over to help as I was under the bike yayayayaya. If this happened anywhere else , I would have been in trouble because I couldn’t begin to lift it as well. Baggers are even bigger and heavier and even more difficult to right.

Thankfully, we very rarely ever lay a bike down….. even most younger guys couldn’t pick up a big bore by themselves. I wouldn’t worry about it , especially let “ that “ stop me from riding. If you are concerned a lot, install a couple of engine guards with handy footrests on them. That way it’ll protect your precious engine chrome and you won’t get pinned under the bike. Baggers commonly have these. Ride while you still can brother.

You're so right, mine is 650 lbs.... and thanks to you, I realize that if there was ever a time in the past that I had laid it down gently, I'd have never been able to lift it alone even in my 20s.. So thank you again! 🙂👍🙏✝️

You have encouraged me to get out today. It’s sunny here for a change and going to be 70f today too. A perfect get my hind end out of the house opportunity. it was sunny and 70f here today, perfect for a trip out to see the local lakes and wildflowers. We did go to Millerton Lake and see mountain snow and fields of wildflowers……. But we watched two stupid mid 40s adults get into one of those little paddle boats, you see for swimming pools, with their fishing gear and stupidly launch themselves into the immense raging river below the Friant Dam in the massive storm discharge ….. and nearly immediately get swept away , probably to their death. If they drowned , we were the last people they ever talked to, if they lived ( we don’t know yet ) we saved their lives. When they were swept under the Friant bridge in the raging water , we couldn’t see them anymore … they were gone. We found some dam operators that have direct connect to emergency services and alerted them for a rescue . We saw a rescue helicopter and a bunch of emergency response people entering , closed due to high water, Lost Lake Park. ….. 2.5 miles down stream. The chopper circled for over an hour. We dont know if they drowned or lived yet, hoping whichever will be on the local news tonight or tomorrow. If both drowned, it’ll prolly make the news. Keeping our fingers crossed that they were rescued.

This is bizarre , my last two QOL efforts have come to an awful end result. First I broke that tequila and now watched two people get swept away, possibly to their death, in raging water. Scary…..

😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Sierra foothill snow, hillside wildflowers and plentiful lake ( Millerton ) water. 70f.

Hope you get some more decent weather and have an uneventful next QOL adventure.

Kaliber profile image
Kaliber in reply toZengal79

I hear that. Nothing in the news yet but I discovered there have been 11 water rescues in local rivers ( Fresno county, 85 water rescues, now, in Tulare county ) in the last couple days alone. I’m guessing that they survived because if they drowned, it’d likely make the news. “ HEY !!!! , I know …. The local rivers are raging with runoff storm water, the most dangerous in 30 years …. Let’s put a pool toy in the water and go fishing on it !!! Wooohooo “ …. Blows your mind. The next atmospheric river is back now and it’s going to rain solid for another day and a half. Numerous local little towns on the west side are already deep in record floodwaters, more storms is the last thing they -we need.

Good weather here is inevitable , this is California after all. Gonna be a REAL green year as well. Gonna be lots of opportunities to get out and have some QOL times. Dry season starts pretty soon. Hopefully I’ll buildup my physical conditioning a bit , getting out is more challenging than it ever has been. What I used to take for granted is gone … being cooped up , on my couch, for the winter has reduced my mobility noticeably…. but I think if I start getting out, even to ride my etrike on local h&b trails …it’ll all help get me in better shape. I also took a few h&b runs on my etrike yesterday, kinda beat me up tho … I as was kinda tired after the day’s previous events. Doing QOL activities is a valuable and important diversion to keep your mind off “ things “ and pay less attention to that basket of discomforts. To exercise those wasting muscles.

Remember when the Frankenstein monster smoked that cigarette and said “ goooood “ with that scary smile ? Well, QOL “ goooood “ yayahahahaya yayahahahaya.

The more you can get out there the better you’ll feel! Sounds like another rough couple days your way, but like you said… it’s California. The good weather will come!

And about those crazy inflatable boat folks… agree they must have survived their adventures otherwise would’ve made the headlines. No news is good news in this case, I’d presume.

I had a most delicious brunch today. We’ve had minor dusting of snow the past two days. Teased with a few days of nice mild temps last week. Awesome to see people out on their motorcycles. yayahahahaya …. Well , when I’m outdoors,…. more of an immediate concern would be me having to set my porta potty out , beside the truck , in pouring rain ….or in 5’ of slushy melting snow yayayayaya yayayayayayaya .

It’s impossible for me to just jump out of the truck to run inside to a McDonald’s or Starbucks for a BM. First I don’t have enough mobility for that ( have to get out the wheeled chair or unload the etrike off the lift ) but more importantly, When it’s time , “ it’s time “ … it comes uncontrolled ….there is no “ waiting until “ or waiting a bit later. My high level of bg meds and the laxatives I have to take to balance out the opiates ( to combat intestinal blockages - sepsis ) combine to cause me to have this awkward condition - these circumstances. It’s just something I “ deal with and move on “. Having an immediately available portable toilet is mandatory any time I leave the house. There is an almost 80% chance I’ll need it. I do carry changes of clothes , handi wipes, sealable waste bags etc. , extra rolls of TP for accidents . Sure as the sun shines, all the excitement of being out and driving will be a trigger , …… and I nearly always “ go “ sometime before noon and again later in the day ..every day. Waiting until I get home is NOT an option. Waiting at all is not an option.

This is why I make jokes about it. Typically driving down a street and a bm “ event “ spontaneously happens. …. I pull over in an emergency … the hammer already getting everything set up and ready to go ( pun intended ) by the time I can shuffle around to the other side of the truck. I sit down on the potty and hopefully, made it just in time. …then I look up and notice I’ve set up next to the drive thru at a McDonald’s or Carl’s junior? Yayahahahaya yayahahahaya. ( actually I do have magnetic privacy curtains for privacy and to spare the public. )

I don’t want to get trapped in my house and not be able to travel to the coast or have QOL outings . I’m not ready to give up on that. Sooooooo … I have to adapt to meet the circumstances. Traveling with a porta potty is a fix. Traveling in a motorhome or handicapped van that would carry my etrike would be even better if I had the financial resources. Ima not gonna let things I can fix stop me.

Sorry if this is a bit graphic or TMI , but it’s descriptive important information for other brothers experiencing the same or similar circumstances. I know there are probably many others. You don’t have to give up and be shut in, or wear adult diapers every day. This is my workaround for an ugly cancer related daily life issue . It’d be easy for me to say “ all this is just too much to deal with “ and stay shut in at home. I’m not going to let that happen if I have any possible alternative.

Betcha you’re glad you don’t have problems like this …huh ..? yayayaya yayayayaya.

Love ya bruddha
