proton radiation

my husband ended the proton radiation in Heidelberg, we just drove there every day. His PSA is from, 071 to 0,5, he has an appointment with the Oncologist on Monday. I must say, it is a little disappointing that it is still 0,5 after 4 weeks of radiation. Everything went well with the treatment, no organs were damage, thanks. Well, we will see what the Doc says on Monday

If this PSA is without anti-hormonal treatment, then it is a good prognostic indicator. Irradiation is very slow in killing cancerous cells. 6 months to one year may have passed until you get the real picture. On the other hand, if he is taking any medication PSA at this stage is not conclusive.

Then I would see monthly PSA counts focusing on any up/down building trends and not to the absolute values.

too early for accurate picture.

If this was primary treatment (ie no previous prostatectomy ) and no ADT, then minimum PSA (nadir) should be 2-3 years down the road. If it ends below 0,5 that is good. If below 0,3 that is excellent. You should not expect undetectable, as he still has a prostate.

Ah, well it still takes time, but you are definitely looking for undetectable. Have patience, I wish you both well.
