Saturday night at the Freedom Plaza there was a Service honoring Fallen Military. Saw several pts there, and that Bruddah in the pic with me is a Hawaii Boy
You are like Steve Martin as the dentist ! 😂👏👏👏A cracked crown now needs fixing$1500, a cleaning plus X-rays $280 ,with no insurance or income it’s a bitch . This is the fourth such tooth since dx . I feel like they are all going to fall out in time . Osteopenia has fd up my bone density . A post failed now I have a gap .the golden years baby. Whoohoo.
Oh dang Brother, are your xrays digital, you think that you could email them to me before you undergo treatment?I'll take a look an give you a 2nd opinion
Don't know where you are, but in Mexico you can get good to great dental work done for about a third of the cost in the USA. E.g. near Yuma AZ is the Mexican town of Algodones which must have 50 dental clinics. When I first went there, my dentist had graduated from USC and lived in Yuma, but made more $$ working in Mexico. We traveled all of Mexico and had great dental work when ever needed.
I'm half Chinese. When I went to a doctors appointment with my sister, the Doctor greeted us in the waiting room. She was new to us. The first thing she asked was "Are you sisters Hapa?" She's half Chinese too. Hapa seems to be now broadly used for anyone with Asian ancestry mixed with something else. There's a Facebook group for Hapa. There's even those in the group who are one quarter Asian. I like that they want to learn more about the experience of being mixed Asian. When I was born, it was unusual to have a Chinese Dad. Now we're everywhere. I'd wish you Merry Christmas in Hawaiian but I always miss a vowel or two. I enjoy your posts and your love for ohana. Mary PS that's my Dad in profile picture. It was taken about 1919 in Guangdong.
Beautiful family Randy. Your sons look like cool dudes mixed with equal amounts of confidence and intelligence.
In Japan the word as as sounded out is close to hapa. In Japan its like Spanglish so I guess Japanglish. Its hafu. That' my son as wife is Japanese.
I said it before but Hawaii would be a dream come true. I can tell by the food porn you've shown. A potpourri of the worlds best. I've had and continue to have some of the foods you've shared here.
Rather than Chicken Katsu as at L&L which is very good some Tonkatsu or better yet Hirekatsu ( both are pork but Hirekatsu is pork tenderloin ) are delicious.
The Japanese language has a name for the sound when you bite into a perfectly breaded/fried piece (sharu, sharu) and it is so good when next you hit the tender juicy tendorloin. Anyway lol.
Oh cool about Japanese Daughter in Law, any Grandkids?
Yea, in Hawaii it's a huge mix of different cuisines cuz they all came to work in Hawaii and they brought their own Country foods, and then they probably began to try each others. Now, in Hawaii, there are plate lunches, eg the ones in the pix above, with two scoops of white rice, mac salad and a protein. I had the spinach-like baked pork and Hawaiian BBQ pork, Son had chicken, Beef teriyaki and Korean style short ribs. Zarina had the loco moco: sunny side up eggs on a hamburger patty on rice, smothered in gravy.
Oh sweet, I'm glad that you've had some of the items in my Food Porn
Some of the local places have crispy pork cutlet (Tonkatsu) with gravy
Yea good stuff. The korean rib/bbq in the Japanese twist is Kalbi and I've had both and either is sooo good. Can also wrap the meat in leaf lettuce, add bean sprouts, onion, shrooms etc. before wrapping.
All good stuff. Oh its my wife is Japanese. Yep son has our 2 grandkids we'll be together over the holidays at some point.
wow big guy , great time with the family . Bolsa Chica a great place too. I’ve been there a lot , took the conservancy guided tour a few times. I perused that great looking food menu too.
Is that custom ebike yours ? I never saw one like it. I had a substantial investment in ebikes before I got sick and my bones became brittle. The e-trike I drive for mobility now is an adaption of an ebike. Ebikes make you feel 17 years old again.
Perfect example of a quality of life trip buddy, looks like you really had fun.
it was at LnL Hawaiian BBQ, started in Hawaii and has spread thru the Mainland!
It was my #1 Son Bryan's Wife Zarina (She grew up in France) who chose it for lunch. We had gone to LnL's on their previous Christmas trips out to CA. She had the Loco Moco:
trip sounds wonderful, any trip to the beach is wonderful QOL .
Your family ever seen bocha chica in spring - summer. If not , a must do sometimes.
I know it sounds unbelievable , bizarre, but when I checked out the Hawaiian menu …I thought the pork and cabbage would surely be the dish you choose yayahahahaya yayahahahaya. That’s weird … it’s prolly what I’d pick ( among several ) and I thought you might as well. Yayahahahaya yayahahahaya
Yes Bruddah, the Beach, a hike, Ohana then yummy lunch makes a huge QoL Day.
Slow cooked pork and sauteed cabbage in the pork juices. Coulda used a beer tho, I'll do that back home in Hawaii. And Cabbage has sulforaphane livestrong.com/article/3078...
And it's delicious
Got for you Bro, just do what you can handle on the bike, keep the blood/Oxygen flowing. make the myokines which was posted about earlier. Also increase BDNF
Brain Derived Neurotropic Factor which may help against cognitive decline
speaking of nootropics …. many many years ago when the nootropic - racetrams fad swept the country , I …along with a large group of guys on the web, did a “ deep dive “ into those for personal brain - mood enhancing . Back then nootropics we’re newly discovered and there were no government controls on them yet. Since then , some have been banned and others gone prescription. You could buy an ounce of white modafinil powder chemical , no questions asked. It did do something ( as contrasted to those that did little but make you drowsy ) , but seems to be over hyped these days.
There was a phase of measuring a dose with a whole set of tiny spoon scoops , different sizes , with long handles … which changed to using microgram scales when those came out very affordable. This change for a lot of reasons. Probably a lot of those guys did the ole “ if a little is good, more is better “ thing too.
I had about 17 of the most famous ones and a “ bunch “ of the “ not so much “ others. Many I used are prescriptions nowadays. Then they were tried with combos, called “ stacks “. IMHO, “ stacking “ was a bad idea. Sometimes those combined in ways that produced unexpected and undesirable results …no doubt some were dangerous.
We gauged each nootropic individually by how many digits we could remember in a long number and how long that lasted before it wore off and the number shrunk. I could remember a 17 digit number ( or so ) for example and …at best with the best nootropic, could remember a number nearly 50% larger , ….. until it wore off and you had to take it again. ( rough estimates but you get the drift ) .
Some interesting info is : The average powerful nootropic lasted about 3 days before your body built up resistance to it, and you had to switch to another one because it quit working. Some were shorter than 3 days. Most of us guys in the group had a favorite 8-16 different kinds in a rotation that we took , trying to keep the effects t going. We eventually changed to “ 2 days and switch “ … rotations.
After about 3 weeks , at first ( this time shortened considerably after prolonged usage ) your brain became exhausted … probably serotonin depletion… and you had to take a several week break to regain the depleted brain chemicals. Over time the depletion time shortened and recovery time took longer.
Ultimately , for us in the group … we decided that nootropics … the golden treasure of increased brain function … is chasing a ghost and other than short term , like studying and taking 3 day ( at most ) tests,…. that nootropics were generally a flop. and possibly bad for you in the long run. We weren’t there yet “ with nootropics.
yea…well …. Those were “ the good ole days “ yayahahahaya yayahahahaya. Like a lot of stuff on the web, and granted we are all different , ….still there is so much bogus hype and veiled commercialism imbedded in info / products on the web …. It’s a sorry situation to see what transpires sometimes.
At 76 and ADT drug , hormone challenged … and medication side-effected … times have changed yayahahahaya but thank you buddy , you still da man.
you better buy some stock in DoorDash bruddha , …your posts drive me to keep shoveling them big bucks when the hammer is too hammered to cook yayahahahaya yayahahahaya.
LOL, that's a great idea Just trying to do other cuisines instead of the tired soy sauce, garlic, ginger, sesame oil stuff
When I was kid in Hawaii, my Dad who worked at Pearl Harbor for like NAVSEACINPAC and had to go to San Diego for training. He brought us there too. When there we discovered a Taco Bell across the street, and Oh Boy did we really love those flavors that we never had before
Oh sweet!! My sis in law and hubby live off Brookhurst. During my marathoning days of yore, Surf City was a fun - with surf rock bands, cheerleaders and at mile 17 there was Beer and Bacon and then you turn around on the way back to the finish and could get it again. In 2015 Surf City was the 1st marathon after the diagnosis and I then started having a bib on my back exhorting men to get checked. I'm only 2 hrs from there or Ventura
That's fantastic your son and D-in-L came from London for Christmas visit. The beach looks awesome. Last Christmas, my son, D-in-L and grandson came from Singapore to see us in Canada. My granddaughter was born earlier this year which we still have to meet. Our turn to go to SG. LOL Merry Christmas to you and yours.
