Ever since cyberknife on my L-2 I am sleeping my life away. In bed at 9 today slept until 9. I am 64 and try to walk everyday but beyond that no explanation for such exhaustion. Anyone else?

Not sure how long since your diagnosis or what meds you are on. I know it’s difficult to process all of this since I am fairly new myself having been diagnosed back in the summer. What I’m learning is that I need to take one day at a time, seek strength and comfort from my faith in Christ and family. Strive to accept the new normal and learn to take care of myself by exercising faithfully because everything I’ve read from others is that this one thing is so important both mentally and physically. I know that it’s difficult to push through but you have to.

Beautifully stated. Thank you.

That sounds like depression, which is common and understandable given your diagnosis. It is a good idea to see a psychiatrist to get the right antidepressant for you (Wellbutrin won't make you drowsy), and to learn techniques that may help.

how is it going Tall Allen? Believe it or not, I am not depressed at all. Just tired. Orgoyx and Erleada and gabapentin at night for hot flashes. Last night I woke up at 3am drenched in sweat. I stood outside for five minutes... 20 degrees, windy...it felt so good.

Gabapentin makes one sleepy.

I take it around 8pm, doesn't really help as much with hot flashes as I hoped

Gabapentin makes people tired more than sleepy. It works well for peripheral neuropathy. You could consider to consult with a psychiatrist and try ritalin or provigil to see if they help with the fatigue and the hypersomnia.

I used Ritalin for a while to fight off the fatigue and I did feel better on it.

it’s difficult to parse out cause and effect. That said I had a similar response to SBRT. My energy levels are returning slowly. It’s been two years. I have to keep reminding myself—- it’s been two years! Don’t be afraid of following Tall Allen’s advice. None of us should suffer if there’s pharmaceutical help!

sounds normal to me based on my knowledge and use of gabapentin. A solid 12-14 hours of drowsy. First my old Lab and then me; plus radiation that saps your body...... you might also check your blood sugar.... Good luck.

I experienced fatigue after whole pelvic for three or four months. Also was on ADT which was probably the primary cause but for the months following radiation it was excessive. The whole time your on ADT it's bad.

How much do you exercise and what kind?

At one odd point I was sleeping for 2-3 days at a time in complete depression mode not eating or drinking or taking my pills . Once every few months I went through that until one day the fog lifted . I started Sam- e and it deleted much of my fatigue .. I’m up all night peeing so interrupted sleep at best drags one down during the daytime . I rarely nap anymore . Se la ve! ✌️

I think it is classic depression. When I was 25, I was depressed for a while. Nothing to do with health. I was sleeping 12-14 hrs and didn’t want to do anything. I would suggest counseling and set up a schedule for sleeping and activities.
