Recurrence and Arasec Phase 3

My husband has had CT's and PSMA that confirm recurrence in prostate and lesion at L-3. Biopsy confirms adenocarcinoma.

Tomorrow we meet with MO and Arasec coordinators. We'll get treatment plans then.

Tonight's question is about PSA numbers. Paul has never had a number above 45. In August his PSA started creeping up from .02 after a 2.5 years ADT vacation and remission. He is still hormone sensitive. It tripled in September but still just under 2.0. October came in at 2.1. Yesterdays number is 8.1

At this point, is 8.1 predictive in any sense? For example, is a higher PSA more concerning for prognosis? As a layperson, 8.1 certainly sounds better than something much higher but does it make any difference now? Is it faulty logic about this stage? I know that I can ask the MO tomorrow but here I sit tonight- thinking and thinking.

There's some mighty brains sharing here. I've learned a lot and would appreciate the opinions in addition to the MO.

Thank you! Mary

Thinking will get you nowhere, other than ruminating in circles. Most prostate cancer puts out a lot of PSA, but some puts out very little PSA. Often, there is a mixed type.

When PSA expression is low (IHC of the biopsy tissue can quantify it) it is prudent to have scans more frequently.

Thank you. You've added to my understanding.

Could you explain this to me or point me in the right direction ? Why would one need scans more often when PSA is low, I must admit it is probably the ADT brain fog that isn't helping me grasp this.

Does that apply to you? What was your PSA when you were first diagnosed?

My PSA was 11.6. This probably doesn't apply to me; I was just confused by the reply I guess. Thanks though.

You are correct that it doesn't apply to you. PSA is a good indicator for you.
