CT Report.

Hi, I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are still waiting to get into the radiation oncologist to radiate the spot on his spine. There is a spot on his rib as well which they say they will be able to get when doing the spine. Also, the report stated that small spiculated areas were appreciated with ground-glass haze noted in the lingula. Given its normal shape with the ground-glass is difficult to achieve an accurate measurement. As an estimate, this is approximately 5mm. This could represent developing or resolving infectious process. A more aggressive process is not excluded. A second toe groundglass area is noted very inferiorly in the lingula.

WHAT DOES All This Mean???

Also states There is a concern for left ventricular hypertrophy. Follow up with cardiology. We will try and get into the Dr this week. we were having insurance issues. They also denied the PSMA PET Scan for DEC. 5.

Any comments advice or helpful hints would be much appreciated. Thank You.

can someone interpret what this all means?

It really is a different language!!

How is his blood pressure? Could that be a cause of his cardiologist visit?

I'm sure someone will respond soon with an explanation for you.

Sending you ((HUGS))... I know how upsetting all this is.

Carol

his blood pressure has always been good. Doesn't take any meds as of now. seems once people start taking them the never get off of them. Its all just very scary.

Ground glass lesions in the lungs may be something else, possibly from a residual lung infection. Discuss waiting to see if it resolves and have another CT in a couple of months. If it doesn't clear up on its own, a biopsy may be needed find out what they are.

L. Ventricular hypertrophy - enlargement of the left ventricle - may be a sign that not enough blood is getting to the heart. A cardiologist can diagnose and remedy.

Full body CTs often have such incidental findings.

They have been there for a year. first was just a little spot. now its worse and they keep blowing it off like its noting. I think it needs to be checked. especially if cancer is already on the spine and rib. But i don' t want to be all dramatic.

Probably not prostate cancer, but it may be anything from a persistent infection or even primary lung cancer. I agree- best to have it biopsied.

. If it is only 5 mm , there is a significant chance of missing it on biopsy. They probably will continue monitoring on scans. Hopefully it will quit growing. Too small to show probably on a FDG Pet scan, too.

Our experience and what we have read in lung cancer literature

My friend had a 5mm lung lesion. An interventional radiologist biopsied it in-bore in a CT machine.

The opacity of the lingula may be anything from infections to atelectasis and you need to consult with internal medicine.

The hypertrophy of the left ventricle suggests the walls of the ventricle are thicker than normal and you need to consult with a cardiologist to see if a heart echo is needed to measure ejection fraction and if diastolic heart insufficiency is present. If he is hypertensive a better control of the hypertension may be indicated.

Did he have COVID?

Yes, he did a while ago that is what they contributed to last year. It has been over a year now. But I am definitely hoping that is exactly what it is.

It was quite prevalent. I was reading some data at the end of 2021 which found that 80-85% of all COVID exhibited the ground glass effect. May be a residual holdover, after that it runs the gamut...slight pneumonia, mild pleural effusion and a range of other things. i agree with TA on the biopsy, especially the spiculated area

I'm not one to give medical advice but please note that Radiologists are obligated to report all that they see on the scan as you would expect. I'm not saying ignore any of it, just note that it's routine for them to call out all findings. Follow your doctors advice.
