it’s been just over 8 years since I was told like many of you that I had metastatic prostate cancer and a prognosis of as little as 2 years . A couple of years later I was part of this BBC film, if you have the time please watch because if you need reminding that everyone day is a gift this may do it for you .
I am one of the lucky ones still here now and hence I wrote a book Dead Man Running , as a bit of a follow up to my small role in the programme above .
Have a great day , find some joy somewhere as you will never have today again .

Hi Kevin. We exchanged some notes a while ago when I first discovered this film. I'm so glad to see that it is on YouTube and is more easily accessible for people to watch. I loved it the first time I watched it and have seen it a few times since with people I am close to.
I maintain a positive outlook similar to you and the other people in the film. My cancer diagnosis upended my life but it hasn't all been negative. My priorities have changed but for the better. I put so much more value on the time I spend with family and friends. I don't put off doing things that I want to do. I'm loving every day that I'm alive.
I am 4.5 years into this journey and a similar age to you. Your story is an inspiration for me. I'll have to look for your book. Thank you for sharing this video link.
that is so kind of you to come back to me , I am glad you are making the best of life . I knew too many many in our world who saw no joy in anything after diagnosis, thinking about what they may not have opposed to what they still had . No one on their death bed wishes they spent more time sad do they ? Hope you find the book , it’s on Amazon , it’s not about the money (I make a few cents a book ) but the potential to inspire others to share my ethos . Hope you have a really good day . I am off to hospital for the usual blood tests , am looking forward to seeing the nurses there , will enjoy the drive and smile at all those in the waiting area who look sad . Take care
Hi Kevin! Great story, outstanding performance! I‘m a runner, too - since my youth. I was running marathons, now I do around 8 miles every day and love it. It keeps me fit and helps, to mitigate the side effects of ADT. I bought and read your book almost a year ago and since then following you on your channels. Keep on running and all the best and let’s enjoy this morning.
thank you , its been a hell of a journey as we all know but every day we can all find something that makes our day worthwhile , we just have to try . Well done on the running , I had a running streak of 8 miles a day , lasted 635 days until disaster in the Sahara ………… but that’s for book two ! Have a great day
ha , I have about 8 chapters worth and need 15ish so need to live 3 more years , so some crazy stuff and have some health wobbles (sadly) to make it a reasonable read !
your story, and many others, are a wonderful inspiration. Thanks to everyone for sharing at such a personal level. We become our own band of Brothers, going through an impossible conflict. Knowing some of us will be injured and die along the way as part of the reality. That’s what makes it so intense. To me, very reminiscent of Vietnam. Thank you all so much.
being English and age 57 , Vietnam was something I only read about and of course have seen films about . That seems way more scary and more out of control as an individual than pca , huge respect to you and anyone who has ever had to be involved in any war/conflict . People like me are only here because others before us layed it on the line . Thank you
We are all terminal. If not prostate cancer, something else. Sad reality of our existence.
Just ordered your book. Looking forward to reading it. Thanks! I'm at 4.5 years now and, although the meds are killing me, I'm still here for my wife and family.
Kevin, you're an inspiration for sure. Keep up the good work. I keep hitting snags but just as my name implies-runthru. Just getting to 2-5 miles walking a few times a week, hopefully get back to some running. Doing this has always driven me. I enjoy keeping track of your ventures on running apps. Bless you, man. Have a wonderful holiday!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing this Kevin. I feel fortunate to have been given a chance to re-evaluate my life and to learn to better savor each day. My intent to "live" the time I have left was strengthened and reinforced by you and by the others featured in the programme.
Thank you for sharing this powerful video. NO ONE should ever be told how long they have to live. This PROVES it over, and over. As do the reply's here. May you all be blessed with long lives full of love and QUALITY.
we all must live our lives the best we can every day regardless of health /wealth or anything . Being diagnosed however does give a wake up call . I soon came to the conclusion that there was a trinity of actions for us all every day 1) enjoy yourself , but never at the expense of someone else . 2) create the best memories for you , your family and friends and 3) do something good every day . If you achieve all three , it’s a home run day and what’s not to love about hitting it out of the park !
Very beautiful video, Kevin. Inspiring. So good to “meet you” on it. I am going to share it with my wife, sister and brother. Have been a runner and endurance athlete my whole life. Though now at 73 I do more walking and hiking/backpacking with jogging thrown in. (Seems the speed of my engine has slowed down.)
Thank you for being here and for what you share. MateoBeach/ Paul
no shame in getting older and slowing down , I can’t run as fast or far as I did even 4 years ago but I can go the distance with a run/walk strategy. My next big race (200k approx ) is in Bhutan next year , fingers crossed . It’s good to have a short and medium term goal . The long term will be what it will be . Don’t stop .
Here’s to you and 200k in Bhutan. Totally agree about the power of big goals, the “wonder if I could” goals. Still working on mine for next year. Prioritizing things I can do with my athletic and adventurous wife over the solitary in recent years. The goal brings everything into alignment to a purpose in an empowering way. 👍👍
Kevin, just had a beautiful and touching time watching your video with my wife. I have tried to live with a positive outlook since my diagnosis, and the video seemed to really help my wife as she has struggled more than I have with my prognosis.
Thanks again for sharing the video and for making yourself vulnerable and available through this medium.
I am so glad it helped in some way . For me , it helped start me realise that sharing my story and positivity may make me feel like I have a sense of purpose and worth that eventually led me on to write a book . Every day is a gift my friend .
running in Bhutan! That could be challenging - lots and lots of hills and valleys. But oh so beautiful. I recommend a few nights to recover at the end at the Taj (expensive but very worth it).
