Osteoporosis with prostate cancer
As long as you have no hormone therapy, prostate cancer will not affect this. You provide no information if this is the case or any further details about your prostate cancer.
Locally advanced prostate cancer, I am on intermittent ht finished treatment at st Jamie's in 2016 psa 0.05 undetectable, my testosterone has not recovered, and only 8st that is why I have osteoporosis, gp said she was going to prescribe adcal or Fosamax, but I also have hiatus hernia and they can cause stomach problems, so she is going to send a letter to the hospital about injections like denosunab, but I don't know what to do,
Denosumab and similar drugs will strenghen the bones and this way avoid fractures. They have the side effect of osteonecrosis of the jaw therefore you should get a periodontal treatment before using denosumab.
The male body produces estrogen from testosterone. If you have low testosterone you have low estrogen and this will cause osteoporosis. If you increase the estrogen level, you can avoid this. You can use estrogen patches for that but this is off-label for males. We have to wait for the results of the STAMPEDE patch arm which will be published next year.
Did you mean those to be negative numbers?
What do you mean
"t 2.5 t 4.1 at the lumbar spine. Femoral neck is 0.593." If those are positive numbers, your bone mineral density is very good. Only a problem is they are t= -2.5, -4.1 and -0.593
Did you do a DXA scan? Sometimes DXA provides wrong results because it’s only a 2-dimension scan. You can do a modern CT scan, which is 3-dimensional and delivers more precise results. Based on that you can decide, what to do. I also changed my diet, supplement calcium/D3/K2 (but only to reach my under limit because I’m vegan) and started with regular weight lifting. My next scan will be 1/2022 and I‘m curious to learn if my values improved.
Thanks, have you got osteoporosis, I also take d3 k2 how much do you take, I am on 30mgs of lansoprazole but still have to clear my throat a lot, and ppis stop your body from absorbing nutrients.
Some say I have osteoporosis, others say it’s still osteopenia. So I rejected Prolio & others by now based on potenzial side effects. I take 500mg Calcium daily after checking my daily Calcium intake via Cronometer. I get 500mg by nutrition, the other 500 mg from the supplement. This adds up to the recommended 1.000 mg per day.
I have broken 6 vertebrae and 2 ribs.With 2.4 femur and 3.1 spine
I feared breaking a femur. I started walking 3 to 5 Km per day.
In 3 months the femur went to 1.8
But then I did not walk much and is back to 2.5 and the spine 3.3
I suggest you walk 5 km per day. Don't run. Avoid falling. Just walk. Walk fast if you can but not big steps, and not too fast that you risk falling.
For the spine I am doing now a lot of ABS and lumbar workout laying on the floor. Basically doing the bridge, and many abs.
You also need to strengthen the wrists. I do push-ups. Begin push-ups against a wall, then on the floor with knees down.
Go to a gym and have you assisted by a professional, adjusting exercises to your age and phisical condition
5 mile a day that's a lot,I go for a for about 20 or 30 mens does osteoporosis leave you a bit out of breath.
Meant walk
Do you get any pain in your back or chest.
I take sulbutiamine and drink Beetroot Juice and green tea to beat the ADT and lack of testosterone Before a long walk or doing gym
Ouch Manilo ! That’s a lot of breaks? I broke a rib and a big toe and I feel it in ever bone too . Excellent advise ! 👍
I'm beginning to see why the work outs and walk run is so important.
Looks like I will be going on that as pain in my upper back not good is denosumab ok because I have read horror stories.
