Cancer Moonshot - Politics

I apologize to all of you for my part in making this discussion political.

I hope that in the future we can avoid any political discussions and stick to PCa, the one topic that we all share an interest in.

We are a bunch of old men and by definition are set in our ways of acting and thinking. We are unlikely to influence change in our fellow posters and run the risk of alienating each other.

For the last 20 years I had been a member of a message board focused on investing, inhabited by some very shrewd and successful investors from all over the world. Some conservative and some progressive. Unfortunately some extreme partisans found it entertaining to bait each other and turn it into a shouting match with many insults hurled at each other. It turned into a slug fest and lost its focus on investing, as a result one had to weigh through hundreds of off topic posts to find any nuggets of investing wisdom.

I hope we can avoid that fate and just leave political comments out of our discussions.

I hope that our moderators will apply this ban universally, even to our most popular posters.

Please remember...

Anytime one uses the word "you" in a reply he runs the danger of escalating.

It wasn't you. Ha. You put it out there the cancer Moonshot. An agenda that no matter the odds has at least some bearing on us or those who come after us.

Some guys just go right from their cozy twitter, facebook, message board revolving around politics to our PC forum here with just the smallest of opportunity to do so. Not your fault.

Wasn't anyone but me taught you should never talk about politics or religion in mixed company?

Well Scout,

The "War on Cancer" of the Nixon era to the happenings of today, Haaa! Doesn't matter if you like the donkey or elephant exhibits at the zoo! It shows those of us who really look at things with an unbiased view, that once these ensconced bureaucrats and scientists are involved, the wheels turn slowly, personalities are often more important than results. That pension and lifetime benefit package is a carrot on a stick.

I worked in pharmaceuticals for fourteen years. Private business is a different dynamic--although there are some employees that for different reasons--it takes several screw ups before they are demoted or severed. Until that happens others have to tolerate and even be wary of what these fellow employees might do that could harm you or others.

As I pointed out in the link I supplied it was said that "every benchmark was met". Okay--wasn't the directive to find a cure for cancer rather than meet benchmarks? Double speak! Just keep talking with multisyllable words and a nicely modulated voice with the appropriate body language displayed while going off point. Ahh well!

The "don't tell me, show me" thing from basic psyche applies to "benchmarks" I would think.

You did nothing wrong Scout.

I know the feeling about one’s sense of humor not being recognized. Sometimes though, when I’m alone with myself, I’ll say something funny and we both laugh and laugh…

Yeah, ya know, someone oughta laugh at my jokes, and it might as well be me.

You may not realize it, but I believe you are one of the most popular posters here.

You post reasonably frequently. And certainly with high quality content. Always.

So I think you are one of "our most popular posters"

I hope you keep posting your high quality content.
