Hello Friends , Im currently being treated at the V.A. at Hines.I have Eligard , Zytiga 250mg taken on low fat breakfast and 5mg of prednisone . Its been only 6 months into this protocal . I had 3 fractions of SBRT to the 1 pelvic lymph node then 25 fractions to the pelvic area . PSA <1 . So after 2 yrs they want to stop treatment and see where it goes . There is theory that having oligometatastic ( 1 lymph node ) might be curable ? Has anyone here completed the 2 yr plan and how long did the remission last before the next step ? Thank You
The 2 year plan: Hello Friends , Im... - Advanced Prostate...
The 2 year plan
Hopefully, you are now cured and there is no next step.
Thanks Allen , I hope my prayers work, a cure shure would be nice . I just wanted to hear from someone on this sight that has similar cancer as mine and do not take any more prostate cancer drugs after the 2yr protocol . So if someone here feels that they were cured or on a long remission , I would like to know . Thank You
You may want to look at this study in which ¾ of the men were cured by the same therapy you received:
I had surgery followed by salvage radiation along with 2 years Lupron and Zytiga. Been off hormone therapy about 16 months. Still <.1. PSA Test tomorrow.Fingers crossed!
Good luck to you!
Had more than 1, mine wasn't cured, did two years ADT, whole pelvic radiation (PBLN) So came off ADT to see what happened. We'll scan again and see what we find and where it is. And see if can attack it again.
I was <0.01 while on ADT. But began rising immediately after discontinuing ADT. One year later 0.396
Plan to rescan when 1.0 probably Feb 2023.
Hi reconjj, I was/am oligometatastic, did radiation and then the Lupron for two years. Two years was up Nov 21 and my testosterone has come back in the low normal range. It will take 6-12 months for recovery of taking adt my dr says. I hope our remission last a long time because most people have to go on adt the rest of life. I’m a vet, do you like your v.a. Cancer drs? You can private message me if you like.
Hello Ranger , so far yes I like Dr. Henry . She works at Loyola attached to V. A. I also have University of Chicago , Dr. Szmulevits . At some point if my numbers change and therapy is needed I will make a choice of what protocol of each I want to go with . For now its wait and see . V.A treats me very well . I like going there .
I was on a similar treatment plan. They stopped my hormone therapy (Lupron) after 20 months instead of 24 months (somewhat associated with my specific side effects - daily nausea) . PSA has been good for over a year now, and testosterone has gone up to 257. My MO prefers a break in hormone therapy at around 24 months for people with similar cancers, so as to not become resistant to treatment if needed in the future. Also, hopefully treatment worked!
