Where should I purchase Abiraterone from

Where is the best place to purchase Abiraterone from? Need to take 1000 mgs a day on an empty stomach for 1.5 to 2 yrs. Yearly cost with my Medicare part D drug plan from Wellcare is very high. Good RX looks promising but will their price last over time? Has anyone had luck with an offshore pharmacy? Please give me your input. thanks, DMR

GoodRx has been around $250 a month, no way of knowing how long that price will hold. Pharmacy pricing remains a mystery to the general public and is controlled largely by PBM's (pharmacy benefit managers) who are able to manipulate pricing with questionable actions that favor the PBM profits and the insurers. The fact that GoodRx can provide the medication for $250 and obviously remain profitable lets you know we are being reamed by the insurance industry. Be sure that you have checked into your insurance plan regarding their preferred pharmacies. Last year Krogers was my preferred, that changed to Walgreens this year. After my deductible was met I was receiving my Rx for about $100 per month. If I had stayed with Kroger it would have been almost $2000. Makes no sense. Best of luck in your quest.

My cancer center has a specialty pharmacy that found a manufacturer of abiraterone that costs me $168 a month. That is the cash price without insurance. And it is what I pay under my Medicare Part D plan until I meet the plan's deductible. Once I meet the deductible I will pay less of course. The abiraterone is manufactured by Qilu Pharmaceutical in China and is distributed by Celltrion here in the US.

How do you actually purchase the pills are they shipped from China? Where is that cancer center.

I buy them from the hospital specialty pharmacy just like you would from CVS or Walgreens. The specialty pharmacy delivers them to my home but I could also pick them up from the pharmacy. I don't buy them from the manufacturer in China.

I too get it from my hospital specialty pharmacy. I am on Medicare Advantage with Blue Cross. Cost varies per month for no reason but is in the 150.00 range. Good RX is your best bet. Not sure where you are but the hospital may be your best bet. The system sucks as the Senate in particular is owned by big pharma.

12/8/22 Aloha, snugrose, my husband, age 69, was diagnosed in 9/22 with Stage IIIa Gleason 8 prostate cancer based on his prostate biopsy results. On 11/18/22, he started to take Casodex 50mg/day to prevent a testosterone flare (he has a 21-day supply of Casodex). On 12/5/22, he received his first shot of Eligard (3-month dose). On 12/9/22, he will take his last Casodex pill. On 12/10/22, he will start taking Abiraterone Acetate 1000 mg/day + prednisone 5 mg/day and will take this for 2 years. Regarding Abiraterone Acetate pills, a bottle of 60 pills came and each pill is 500mg; therefore, this is a 30-day supply. He will receive a 30-day supply of Abiraterone pills in the mail every 30 days. When he receives Abiraterone Acetate pills, he must sign and mail a hardcopy form with date received to the pharmacy in the Bronx to let them know when to send the next 30-day supply of pills. The Abiraterone pills come from QuickRx Specialty Pharmacy, 1642 Eastchester Road, Bronx, NY 10461, phone: [phone]. That pharmacy called my husband and said he would not pay anything because of his income level that was reported to the IRS. I did Abiraterone for like 9 months in 2020 (Diagnosed in 01/2015 at age 57). PSA was at 11.7 and got down to 4.1 then started rising. It hit 9.2 and then started Xtandi. That failed in 3 months, MO did another 6 Taxotere sessions, I had 15 in 2015. Unfortunately, PSA still rose. Had 18 Cabazitaxels, but PSA still went from 5.1 down to 2.4 then back up to 6.9

Have an MRI tomorrow. PSMA scan showed no distant Mets, but Prostate lit up like crazy with SUV MAX at 87 and PCa growing into the perineum.

Probs headed for radiation. I'm still standing after 8 years tho💙

Hit that Prostate with 5 days of SABR/SBRT. Evidence is higher dose over less days is more deadly to Prostate. My PSA at new low of .014 month 25 since Dx. Has steadily dropped since Jan 20th MSK Precise. No pain, no blood at either end, and walked 7 blks to hotel each day before/after treatments. Pylarify PSMA PET last month shows no Cancer in Prostate. Zero. Keep on top of it with your Aloha Spirit. Chances are you will go far!!! Best to you and yours, Mike

I've been doing hikes to offset the ADT side effects (anemia, low Hgb, osteoporosis, depression)

Dear Dockam, thanks for sharing. Mahalo for extending your friendship and I would like to do the same. I have been to myself and am relearning how to be a friend. I found myself eyeing your linguine post before you & I traded posts. You put a creative and often humorous twist on things! Given the unpredictable, confounding nature of PCa, it is hard to make it through each day without some levity. I have read your bio and am stunned and stumped about your case, just as I'm puzzled and clueless about what my husband should do with his Stage IIIa, Gleason 8 mixture of ductal and acinar adenocarcinoma PCa. All I do is read and it's barely nicking the surface of the complexities of prostate cancer. I feel like prostate cancer is a roller coaster ride and it's going faster all the time. I will ride onward and try to welcome what each day brings. Dockam, I am so exhausted, so behind in my fiscal work at the office because prostate cancer has taken over my entire consciousness. The pandemic and also this prostate cancer has caused departures; they are no longer in my life and now I do see it opens new doors for me. You're an achiever, driven to accomplish a career in dentistry and healthcare! I deeply feel your compassionate nature. Dockam, somehow you've made California your home. I'm glad you set aside time to come back to the islands to see your ohana. You'll encounter the blustery December weather and nights are increasingly windy, rainy and cold. I have autism but I feel your support and inclusivity. I think I could use this new chapter to adopt to new ways of thinking and doing things.

Laughter is the Best medicine and I've always been a joker, but especially post PCa diagnosis. Maybe it's cuz I have Low Testosterone and no more Rage against the machine.

Yea, the PCa in me has adapted very well to 39 chemo sessions and 8 years of Lupron, but at least there are no distant metastases and can be targeted with IMRT.

Yes, it's a roller coaster, but as a patient, we have to accept the not so good along with the wonderful. Cancer mutates (Duh, it is a mutation of normal cells) and adapts to the environment. So, I am definitely Castrate Resistant

I'm a lil but driven and determined, maybe that's the Crazy Azn in me. I've told my dental pts that I had to get an A+ in Chemo. Old data said only a 28% chance of making 5 years, and here I am still here, 8 years later. I'm so Blessed to be able to still work as a DDS, which I still love to do.

I'm sorry to the OP about the hijacking of your post. Me, courageous, I think it's more of I'm in "survival mode" Others here are going thru way more difficulty with the side effects of the ADT and/or Chemos than I.

Mahalo for following me, just got back up from Bakersfield, after the MRI, I went to Trader Joe's for goodies. Breaking Fast now with a whole wheat lean ham with broccoli sprouts and spicy brown mustard, grapes, and blueberries. I do a 16 hr fast from 9pm to 1pm the next day.

my Oncologist sent a 9 month prescription to Cost Plus Drugs. Cost Plus sent me 120

250mg pills every 30 days for a cost of $130

a month including delivery I’m switching all of my prescriptions to Cost Plus. My thyroid medication costs me $9.50 at Cost Plus at Walgreens they wanted $351.00 I think that says it all If you have any other questions please send me a message GoodLuck 👍😎

A miracle happened and today in the mail he got 3 bottles of 120 250mg abiraterone and all it cost him was $186.00 which he paid from his HSA account. Plus order is for 3 refills of 3 months (9 months). We have no idea how this happened. After being given so much misinformation and finally deciding to go with Mark Cuban (CostPlus), we learned the prescription was never sent to CostPlus (even though my husband sent a message to his doctor to send it to CostPlus). He got a call yesterday from Scripps Specialty Pharmacy and they had the prescription and would fill it and would use the $500+ leftover money from Pan Foundation. My husband said go ahead and fill it. Then he gets a call back from Scripps saying CVS specialty pharmacy had gotten the order and now the Pan balance was $0. My husband told Scripps he had told CVS he wasn’t going to use them and not to fill prescription, so the person at Scripps called CVS back, and they reversed the use of the Pan money, so Scripps was able to fill the order and use the Pan money. And if all of this sounds confusing, we had 10 days of total confusion with this whole process!!! We are celebrating tonight with pizza, wine (for me), and cupcakes! (I also sent this in another post to hfl20). Thanks so much for all the information you shared!
