Loosing muscles

beogradjanin profile image
34 Replies

During last 8 years on ADT, and last 2 years of Xtandi, I am facing continious loosing muscles, as well as weight, of course.

Bones metastases prevent me regular training, exept walking dogs few times daily.

Any contribution of the way of gaining muscles, or just stoping melting them further, would be appreciate 😀

I am using Ostarine and lifting heavy and showing great progress. Gained 1 1/2" on biceps in 6 months. It signals rapid muscle growth. I imagine you would still have gains doing relatively light weigh workouts and continue your walking. At the worst I think you would preserve the muscle you have. Research it then get permission from your doctor

Thank you for your advice, i will do research on Ostarine

Where can one find Ostarine?

It is weird compound and is listed as "not for human consumption" as it is not FDA approved. There are many sub-standard products out there. I get it online from a company called SARMS global. Be sure and check with your Oncologist, if they don't know about it they are lacking in knowledge, my Oncologist new exactly what it was and said "off the books if you were my dad I would have you taking it. Read about it before taking. To start, on a month, then off a month. Sometimes HDL drops, it didn't for me initially then at high dose it did

I suggest that you look at hmb. It doesn't help in young adults but with older folks it appears to reduces muscle loss with or without exercising though exercise is preferable of course. I began using hmb a few months ago and it seems to be helpful in my case. Before I began using them, every visit to the gym felt like it was my first time (muscle pain, weakness) but I now seem to keep my muscles even I have to skip going to the gym for a few weeks.

I just checked and the one I use is from Tony Hortons. However that brand, while good, is fairly expensive. You might find better prices elsewhere maybe.

i have to say - i read that as "Tim Horton's" the first time through, and thought ' how could you go wrong with doughnut weight training?" but obviously i read it wrong.

Metastasis may prevent ‘regular’ training, whatever that means to you, but it doesn’t prevent training. Use light weight and high reps if necessary. There is no good reason to stop altogether.

Beware of muscle building alternatives and supplements, they are not the same and most carry risks that are not well known.

Effort and diligence doesn’t come easily as it once did, but it’s much more important now.

Check out physical therapists, not personal trainers (IMHO). You don't necessarily want to bulk up, you want to keep what you have. I'm sure a good therapist can help you find exercises you can tolerate. I have an excellent one here in Austin TX, good luck!

Either is fine. No one has to worry about bulking up at 60😀

SteveTheJ profile image

Exactly. Be careful though, esp. if you don't have a physical fitness background. Don't hurt yourself and then have to lay off.

To bulk up at 60 is a fine thing as you know Mr S.

I’m referring to the specific unfounded general concern. It takes far more time and effort to ‘bulk up’ when you’re older than most people realize, and therefore is a very unlikely hazard.

To fear bulking up on ADT is basically ridiculous.

Ya I do 1 hour a day 6-7 days a week as my trainer doesn't want me overtraining. Being retired, it is fun and gets me out of the house. Not to mention I love my trainer she pushes me and compliments me on my gains

Light weights using dumbbells - 15#, resistance bands, ab/core exercises and brisk walking or hiking. I started out a few years ago doing one of these every other day, now it’s everyday for about 30 minutes. It’s kept me toned with normal bmi, I’m not as strong as I was but I feel I’m in decent shape for someone my age who’s been on ADT for 8+ years.

I have had a couple spine surgeries and find that I am able to exercise with 10 pound weights in the pool without aggravating discomfort from the orthopedic problems I have also found that the “power plate“ machine is helpful in improving muscle tone withoutRequiring movements that are incompatible with my other physical problems

I started Casodex in January and have been experiencing many unpleasant side effects and found that the above seems compatible with those limitations and discomfort

To prevent the muscle loss, I use self resistance. During these exercises, muscles work again muscles. I have a lot of metastases and cannot lift weights. These exercises do not overload my spinal column. Results may be comparable with weight lifting but without any injuries and overtraining. For a proof, you can attend my page sierraexercise.proboards.co...

In the photo made in 2019, I am under ADT from 2012.

Good luck,

Bob.

I am in crazy muscle building mode. 15g Ostarine, BCCA's and creatine pre workout and 73 grams of protein shake after workout. Huge gains in arms back and chest. And craziest of all 600lbs on leg press machine. Worked out for a year plus and was getting discouraged. Using Ostarine for 18 weeks leading to muscle and strength increases. My PSA had been creeping up slowly and consistently. Last test PSA stopped in its tracks

I tip my cap to you guys who train however you can. Bottom line is you do not need heavy weights-or even weights at all-to build and maintain strength.

Oops it is 15mg. I had great gains at 10mg so I went to 20MG. At 20 I started to feel fatigued so backed up to 15 and for me that is the perfect dose. I look at it like a human science project

I had large metastases at T-4, T-8, T-11 and too numerous to count throughout my spine, with a PSA of 7.3. Was on a 1.5 yr. Lupron break & T jumped from 240 to 330. Been on Lupron, Apalutamide & Xjeva for 2 months & PSA down to 0.3. I was into fairly heavy weights (butterflys & bench press) until I strained a Scapular muscle. But MO told me no restrictions running, jogging, weight lifting & so I am back at it!

Thank you for your comment 😀

I can relate! I’m 61 with 7 yrs of 3 t .. I lost all muscle my first two years by not being able to work out much due to tubes and a foley . But hey! I was in bad shape . However ,I’m lucky to be alive w/ no Psa or visible pc! I think its nearly impossible to build muscle or retain it without t? My main idea is not to be frustrated or hate myself due my weakened body .. Se la ve .. some guys get fat ,that’s a killer for the heart . I’m staying skinny and trying to do some cardio .. Good luck in Serbia! ✌️

We need to keep moving .. muscle is in the past for me ….just trying to dodge the pains and keep happy is the name of my game . I don’t expect to ever re-gain my losses. But if I can squeak by with no signs or pc for awhile I’m happy . Good day Sir! Keep your self up ! 🏜. Scott in Prescott Az. 👍
