This was such a big news that I read about it in the Swedish morning paper: nature.com/articles/s41586-...
Long remission for leukemia with CAR-T. Does is mean anything for aPC-patients?

The most interesting thing I learned from the article, is that genetically modified T cells stay in body. My misunderstanding had been that the modified CAR-T cells were used up during treatment.
The fact that they last in the body for a decade is a positive sign for long term remission. If current trials lead to an effective CAR-T treatment for PCa, then this implies that the treatment would have long term benefit.
Another thought I had about the news. If the CAR -T cells stay in the body, then they would be available to be manipulated with checkpoint inhibitors or other drugs that cause a pro-immune response. I think it's possible that a patient could be treated and get a few years of remission, then a checkpoint inhibitor or pro-immune drug could be given to reactive the CAR-T cells.
T cells have a long memory. I know they added checkpoint inhibitors to the phase II BiTE trials. Of course, autoimmune reaction remains a concern.
TA, are there currently CAR-T or BiTE trials underway specifically for prostate cancer? If so, any feedback on the effectiveness of these therapies? If the trials prove successful, any idea how long it would take (from now) until these therapies are approved and available for APC? Thanks.
Several. Too early to tell. Several years for trials to finish.
A naive question, infact two -
1. 'too early to tell' - any early trend?
2. Will these trials consider mCRPC?
1. well, they didn't end any trials for futility or too many dying, so that's something
2. mCRPC only
Sorry, TA, not able to understand #1, will you please rephrase it?
sorry-it self-corrected - I fixed it.
Thanks TA
From clinicaltrials.gov I retrieve this one
clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show...
Primary center of this is City of Hope, its result will be out by sept, 2023
Any other trial ends before this?
Idk - you would have to check each one. What's the difference? Are you waiting to hear the results before joining the Phase 3 trial? That will be years down the road. You can get in on the Phase 1 or 2 trials now, and they aren't randomized.
As a patient, how do you decide between a CAR-T trial and a BitE trial?
Not being randomized is so important!!! I was in a randomized trial, and suffered the weaker arm, and in all possibility led me to where I am today. Not that I wouldn't have arrived at all, but maybe, quite a bit later down the road lol
But hindsight is always crystal clear! Anyways...
Still mHSPC, so watching all these with an eye on the future!
Best Regards to all!
