Saw a documentary on Netflix about fungi. In it they reference extract of white button mushroom for prostate cancer and turkey tail for breast cancer. Anyone have any experience or knowledge?

mushrooms
Have you seen endocrine.org/news-and-advo...
I have been buying different mushrooms for my husband since his diagnosis in July 2020. We also drink mushroom tea. The idea is to support the immune function even if by itself the mushrooms have not given any indication of helping with the disease progression.
I saw the same documentary. It was fascinating.
It’s my understanding that the main ‘component’ of mushrooms relevant to cancer treatment are Beta-glucans. They are sugars found in all mushrooms as well as oats and barley that strengthen the immune system as it fights cancer. Turkey tail, reishi, and oyster mushrooms are among those with the highest level of beta-glucans. I take a turkey tail extract daily and eat a lot of oyster mushrooms. I’m fortunate in that I love mushrooms and have good local suppliers of fresh mushrooms.
I have read the reports from City of Hope and their studies. I too enjoy mushrooms of all types , so consuming them is not a problem. Curious if cooking alters their effectiveness Dosage and quantity recommendations?
From what I’ve read they need to be cooked to breakdown the cell walls to release the nutrients. However, how they are cooked is important. Boiling and deep frying are bad because the nutrients leach out into the water or oil that isn’t consumed. Grilling, microwaving, and sautéing are the best ways to cook them. I usually bread mine in breadcrumbs and flour and lightly sauté them in a tiny amount of avocado oil.
For dosage I take 1000 mg (two 500 mg capsules) of extract twice daily. Composition of the extracts is crucial but there doesn’t seem to be any standards as to what is disclosed. The amount of polysaccharides and beta-glucans is important. The turkey tail extract I take is NFH Coriolanus versicolor SAP that has 55% polysaccharides with 50% beta-glucans.
I use to take a shiitake mushroom supplement. I think it was a New Chapter product.
Per my nat onco I’ve used ImmunoKinoko750 from QOL labs over six years .I also have used magic mushrooms recreationally a few times over these years with a general feeling of well being afterwards. I love most edible mushrooms 🍄
I eat a lot regularly and also am lucky to have access to a lot, maitake, shitake, bunashimaji brown and white, lions mane, oyster in various forms King, queen etc, white button, brown button. Once in a while morel , chantrelle, and other lesser known varieties when they are available. All of these are fresh so I Sautee and roast them mostly. I also eat reishi, turkey tail and maitake dry and powdered. Pretty sure I have the mushroom portion of a diverse diet covered. I have not added magic, yet.
