CEA keeps going up

Does anyone face this problem please?

My psa is undetectable <.05 and my CEA keeps going up, now, it’s 9.7. I did a colonoscopy 8 months ago when it was 8.7 and nothing found and dr. Told me to come back in 3 years. Should I see a hematologist about it, one specializes in blood cancer?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I’m no doctor but I’ve read CEA is not a good indicator for pc .. PSA is great! Others should chime in for you .. I hope someone can offer more than I can. Take care ✌️

I am sorry Ahk1 . My little info on this I found on line searching CEA . I had not heard of it before . I think with the psa so low you shouldn’t worry too much right now .. easy to say , I know . Good luck ..

CEA can indicate many non-malignant diseases. Your PSA is very low, plus prostate cancer is not one of the cancers that CEA is used to detect. Enjoy the low PSA.

FYI from MedlinePlus - Since I had to look it up...posting for others. What is a CEA test?

CEA stands for carcinoembryonic antigen. It is a protein found in the tissues of a developing baby. CEA levels normally become very low or disappear after birth. Healthy adults should have very little or no CEA in their body.

This test measures the amount of CEA in the blood, and sometimes in other body fluids. CEA is a type of tumor marker. Tumor markers are substances made by cancer cells or by normal cells in response to cancer in the body.

A high level of CEA can be a sign of certain types of cancers. These include cancers of the colon and rectum, prostate, ovary, lung, thyroid, or liver. High CEA levels may also be a sign of some noncancerous conditions, such as cirrhosis, noncancerous breast disease, and emphysema.

A CEA test can't tell you what kind of cancer you have, or even whether you have cancer. So the test is not used for cancer screening or diagnosis. But if you've already been diagnosed with cancer, a CEA test can help monitor the effectiveness of your treatment and/or help find out if the disease has spread to other parts of your body.

In my case I had a cancerous polyp removed two years ago and that is why I monitor my CEA and try to test it annually. Last test 1.6 in June. In the test results I see that normal range is around zero to 4.7 although smokers can be up to 5.6. I guess smoking affects the test. So your level is above normal range. It's trying to tell you that something is there.

Still a good idea to get normal screening colonoscopy at a minimum of every ten years and more often for some.
