I"m gleason 8, had radiation, on Eligard for another 10 months. Hate it, but I started Intermittent fasting, eat only twice in 8 hours, fast for 16 hours. Every day of the month, but four days. Those days I water fast, no food, only meds and supplements, and water with sea salt for nutrients. Weight gain from Eligard went from 225 to 240;s, now down to 217. Dr. Eric Berg, Dr. Siefreid and the man in the link below all detail cancer and fasting. I have no joint pain from Eligard anymore, hot flashes are more less I feel warm not soaked, and much more.
this video is 80 minutes long, by an MD and researcher. Take the time to watch. It's a true eye opener and he is quite humorous in his speech.
I hate to see people with cancer torture themselves with extreme diets. But if you had to lose the weight anyway, alternate day fasting looks pretty good. Hopefully, the radiation+Eligard will cure you. 10 months of Eligard may not be enough - 18 months is standard.
You could try reducing only the carbohydrates by about 50%. That alone should be enough for you to reduce your weight. If you have any higher glucose levels this will help reduce the insulin production by the body.
Great job Greg helping yourself. I too was #4 gl8 over six years ago. Imrt 18 months Lupron , orchiectomy allowed me to drop the Lupron shots2017. plus tak -700 stopping adrenal production of t to date. No cure for # 4 . We kick the can as hard as we can… living without t has its own set of charms. Muscle bone teeth stamina strength lost. Beside that , I’m still here today . With out adt or imrt I wouldn’t be . Pluck the day and enjoy life to the fullest . 🤙🏽
Billibob..I admire your determination and discipline in changing your diet to anti cancer diet..and doing intermittent fasting..which is a sure way to kill cancer cells or to slow their multiplication. An average western mind has been conditioned to think in absolutes and concretes...so it thinks ..is their "cure" or "no cure"....The reality is more abstract and relative...
Is there cure for DEATH ? No. Death is only a matter of time..there is no cure for it.
So, if you can delay death by prostate cancer for a long time and end up dying of natural causes and/or other illness ..then..it should be considered "cure" of your prostate cancer..
There is no way to be immortal...prostate cancer or No prostate cancer...its all about when the death will happen..5 yrs from now, 10 years from now or 20 years from now or 40 years from now....But IT SHALL HAPPEN to Everyone ..even to the President.
I have been doing the 8/16 several days a week for more than two years and discover that I often just naturally eat that way without conscious effort. I follow that approach to promote autophagy, not for weight loss, but I have dropped a few pounds. My former oncologist refused to even discuss it, but my current onc is Muslim and quite positive about my approach. Anecdotal, sure, but gives me the feeling I am doing something on my own volition to counter the mets and contribute to my continued survival. When my PSA rises a bit I redouble my efforts and the upward trend reverses. I actually enjoy my “oatmeal days” with no sense of self-deprivation, which I certainly did experience when I first experimented with more extreme fasting. Masochism isn’t my bag. I don’t mean to proselytise at all, but I encourage others to explore with the chance they might find the positive effects I have experienced.
Obsession with eating a lot of food every day is a modern day phenomenon and oversized portions, fatty and sugary junk foods are partly responsible for our modern eating style..promoted by fast food industry. Many ancient religions have fasting rituals.. some of these are Islam, Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and probably Judaism and others. They probably knew benefits of intermittent fasting which the scientific research is proving now.
It doesn’t matter how we restrict calories on ADT, as long as we do it. Lately especially, intermittent fasting is in vogue. Like any other method, it is only really effective if you do it. Yes I’m being glib, but this topic always deserves it.
Still, fasting does have some special benefits. But again, only if one is willing to stick with it, otherwise it becomes just another fad diet.
I always ask this, and have no plans to stop: what kind of exercise do you do and how much? It’s every bit as important, and so often neglected, despite all the prattle about it.
Exercising while fasting really separates the weak from the strong-it’s drudgery for me, so I don’t do it.
Fortunately I make up for it with my overall diet and fitness habits.😀
