MRI in 2021 - nano MRI advantages?

Some new information as of June 2021.

NanoMRI combined with PSMA/PET can yield even better screening results.

Anyone aware of facilities un US and Europe that do this?

The one in presentation is in Netherlands.

Seems to be a better way of detecting mets, but from what I spoke with doctors - few are aware of this method.

Do forum members know anything more of it?

Thinking if this will yield a benefit in early diagnostic of potential mets for 59yr, 4+3=7, PSA7.8, T2C.

Nano MRI refers to the MRI done using ferromagnetic nanoparticles. It used to be called Combidex. It does not work with bone mets. It can visualized mets in the lymph nodes 2 mm or larger. The PSMA PET/CT do not see lesions smaller than 4 mm.

Do you think it would be beneficial to get one for my case 59yr, 4+3=7, PSA7.8, T2C. ?

It is not the SOC.

You should discuss your situation with the Drs at Radboud Medical Center. You could write to:

Radboud university medical center

The Netherlands

IMHO I think it could help along with a PSMA PET/CT to plan the therapy, since the cancer is T2C.

They stopped doing it in Europe.

There was a US version of combidex done in Florida.

By a facility called Lake something or other radiology.

They used as a contrast agent something used to give patients a high boost of iron supplementation.

I don't know if they are still doing it or not.

Why are you so interested in it?

I think this is the imaging center you are referring to.

They still do it in Netherlands. What is reason for them stopped doing it? I am interested because there is more chance to find mets with them. They can find mets up to 2mm.

They stopped making the contrast agent.

The US contrast agent is used for multiple purposes.

For what reason? If it was working so well? Not enough money in it?

I had the Radboud nano-MRI some years ago. During a long talk with Prof Dr Jelle Barentsz he said that Combidex had failed to obtain FDA approval due to, in his opinion, a seriously flawed application including no radiologist on the team. Without FDA approval, the scan was discontinued. He then bought the rights (a very long story) and went ahead at Radboud,.

My recollection was money.

But the US contrast agent is in plentiful supply.
