Nano MRI refers to the MRI done using ferromagnetic nanoparticles. It used to be called Combidex. It does not work with bone mets. It can visualized mets in the lymph nodes 2 mm or larger. The PSMA PET/CT do not see lesions smaller than 4 mm.
They still do it in Netherlands. What is reason for them stopped doing it? I am interested because there is more chance to find mets with them. They can find mets up to 2mm.
I had the Radboud nano-MRI some years ago. During a long talk with Prof Dr Jelle Barentsz he said that Combidex had failed to obtain FDA approval due to, in his opinion, a seriously flawed application including no radiologist on the team. Without FDA approval, the scan was discontinued. He then bought the rights (a very long story) and went ahead at Radboud,.
