After starting ADT I gained a fair amount of weight. I had gained a little before that too. I quit alcohol, meat and have reduced snacks (supposedly healthy, ha ha) I lost 18 pounds but still have a belly. I am 10 pounds over "college" weight.
I have very little appetite, I get nauseous after about half what I used to eat.
Is this normal? If I keep losing weight should I do something to gain it again?

In my experience this is normal, especially around the midsection and the breasts. Diet and exercise will help, but it is very difficult to get the six pack abs of your youth back. Some men on this forum are better at it than I am. Look at Nalakrats photo!. I have not given up my love of wine and scotch. But vigorously swimming laps has helped me lose 20 pounds this year. My Silver Sneakers class helps motivate me too. I am finally back under a BMI of 25.
I have lost weight and kept it off during ADT but consider myself a fat old man in small clothes. My midsection is the hardest for me but that has been the case my whole life. I think my gym has opened finally so need to get back to it but I know my core is relatively strong based on my current workouts.As far as if you should gain it back why would you ? Do you think your too thin? If you are trying to gain weight and can't than I would be concerned, especially if due to lack of appetite. which could a sign of Cachexia.
I had been down below 190 in May of 2020, just before getting the “Cancer Life Sentence”. Currently at 210, have some nice A Cups, and a weird hump / fat accumulation above where I used to hold my weight…. Prednisone, and extreme fatigue, pretty much turned me in Eric Cartman…
Yes normal.In 2018 I lost 55# from 215 in two months from undiagnosed stage 4 PCa pain. After Dx treated with ADT using Lupron I finally gained 40# overtime. Over a year ago added Xtandi and weight started edging up pushing up above 200#.
Big belly, no strength, no balance, no mind but I'm still here.
Easy to control weight. Just eat less and exercise. Not easy to control appearance at 78. Who cares. Live the life you have left till you don't.
Using body weight as a barometer is deceptive and simplistic, and never more so than on ADT.
It’s the composition that matters. Weight loss AND weight gain are very common on ADT. Simultaneous gain and muscle loss (sarcopenic obesity) is the reason.
Muscle loss and fat gain often more or less offset, resulting in no change in weight but plenty in appearance and health. This exists in various ratios obviously. Thus your loss of 18 lbs can easily leave you with a remaining belly.
As you see from the responses, gaining substantial weight and then losing it is common. Of course this is common everywhere, especially in wealthy countries.
Know your composition! Know what the 18 lbs you lost is made of! Regular Dexa scans are great for this if one wants greater specificity.
It’s simple but not ‘easy’ to control weight by ‘just eating less and exercising more’ for most men. What’s really challenging is to get the ratio together.
And the dreaded Remaining belly fat after weight loss? Famously hard to lose! I can testify! Better to never gain it in the first place, especially when older.
if I’ve done well overall it’s cool. I have surrendered on this and accept a little bit of flab there.
However, If I had a significant loss of appetite I would not think it normal at all- ADT or no. I’d investigate that further if I were you.
I was 157lbs at diagnosis (May 3 2019) of Stage 4 with bone, bone marrow, lung, and lymph metastasis Gleason 5+4=9 and PSA 629. Started immediately on Hormone therapy. Today I weigh 191 pounds, I exercise, and eat less than I used to. I feel like a fat slob, double,triple chins, pregnant belly, and can't put on muscle no matter my regimen. But I'm alive and feel great once I get past the bone pain and breathlessness. PSA .29 Testosterone under 3....
I have metastatic stage IV (lymph nodes outside the pelvic area). My Gleason was 5+4 & 5+5, so close to 10 overall. Started Eligard and then added Abiraterone. Had read a lot about weight gain on ADT, so started major diet changes (have hear it referred to as scorched earth approach, LOL). Mostly plant based diet with oily fish, like salmon, cod, etc. Weight started at around 195, I'm now around 160 (over 7 months). Seems to me like I'm eating a lot, just different, than before.
