Enzalutamide to reduce urination issues?

My brother tells me he's taking enzalutamide to reduce his nighttime bathroom trips.

I responded:

"I’m surprised to hear this. Enzalutamide is an androgen receptor (AR) blocker, recently developed for prostate cancer recurrences that eventually fail to respond to ADT, which happens universally, generally in 2 – 3 years. You might want to ask your doctor if it will alter the way body your processes testosterone. You seriously don’t want that."

Did I give him good advice?

They usually give Proscar or Avodart and an alpha-blocker. If that doesn't work, there are several minimally invasive BPH therapies. If that doesn't work, they try invasive procedures (TURP or HoLEP)

Thanks. Was I right that enzalutamide would negatively affect his body's absorption of T?

That's exactly why they are prescribing it for him. They are giving it to him to avoid activating the ARs in his prostate. It is a drastic solution, but it will work.
