Oh.

I eagerly read through to see what magical new treatment awaits our advanced PCa fellas on Health Unlocked. And the "new" treatment is Lutetium-177. Tell us something we don't know. I'm mindful that many of you have gone down this road in other countries and in trials in the US, but many without such glowing results.

So can we take a poll of anecdotal experience here on Health Unlocked. What mileage did you get out of LU-177?

Fake news.

Maybe someday with different application techniques or modifications. But I wouldn’t say a 4 month OS extension is a miracle

Other than anecdotal evidence here on the forum, we have the results of a large phase 3 trial called VISION. Results were just posted:

And no it's not a miracle or magical treatment, but that's OK. If it gets us down the road a little further and the side effects are reasonable, that's fine with me. That's all we advanced guys can get anyway. Everything that buys us more time is good.

Every day is another day I can be with my family and friends and see my granddaughter. :)

I had two infusions of the LU177 & it reduced psa from 19 to 1.6, so now the psa is 14 three & half years later. So I guess you can say it gave me that three or four years extra life? Now unless overseas travel is allowed I can not have it here in Australia again.

The extension of overall survival with LU-177 is not much less than Xtandi or Zytiga, both of which extend life between 4-1/2 and 5 months. But many guys exceed those statistics.

It can harm your salivary glands (a lot more dangerous than it sounds) and your kidneys.

Because of this they Generally limit treatment to no more than 8 rounds.

Definitely not a first stage treatment.

in reply to cesces

If its not going to be useful as a first stage treatment, where will its usefulness lie? I don’t mean to disparage anyone wanting to get an extra four months in, more for some less for others, but for the type of money talked about, that doesn’t seem practical. Whereas, GregHouston, who used it early on, with Dr. Sen in India, seems to have an anecdotal positive response in his trial of one.

The costs will go down.

But is one point of view.

None of these treatments is pleasant.

Most are expensive.

But once the cancer starts crumbling you bone, it is one of the most painful ways to die.

You really want to die from something else if you can.

in reply to cesces

yeah someone told me the hospitals used to have separate wings for late stage prostate cancer because the screams were so loud.

So get doped up with morphine. Good drugs should eliminate that

in reply to 6357axbz

that's what I was thinking. I've always had some problems with the zero sum approach to dying of something else first. but I do understand the concept.

in reply to cesces

What's the situation with your cancer/treatments?

I had this treatment a year after my diagnosis. Two rounds at Bad Berka in Germany under the care of Dr. Baum. Bone and most lymph node mets resolved after the second treatment. I was told this treatment may be more effective early. I am in no way cured but it did give some peace of mind. Worth it in my opinion.

in reply to gyancey

so you took it early. what about ADT

I started on ADT two months after the diagnosis and was on it during LU-177 treatment. Still on ADT but thinking about a "vacation" Dr. Baum has stated he feels like it may have a synergistic effect when combined with ADT.

in reply to gyancey

Kinda hard to tell where the LU-177 starts and the ADT stops then, isn’t it?

Nope. At the Bad Berka clinic, Scans are done immediately pre and post-treatmentNot quite sure what you're getting at but all I know is I had bone mets pre LU-177 despite ADT and after treatment, they were gone. I found Dr. Baum's protocol to be extremely thorough.

in reply to gyancey

Makes sense, thanks. If it was me, I think I’d try to take at least a vacation, but I can certainly understand the reluctance
