Is there anyone who went to Australia or Germany to receive Lu-177 PMSA Treatment from US? We are considering this treatment and would like to have any input you could offer.

Thanks

I went to Munich in 2016. I had the treatment at the Technical University of Munich. It is a good place and i recommend it. The treatment is painless and without major complications. I had some fatigue after the infusion. It lasted a few hours. Patients with large number of bone metastases may develop low platelets.

One treatment was enough to deal with multiple lymph nodes metastases in the pelvis and abdomen according to a Ga 68 PSMA done 6 weeks after the infusion.

Thank you very much for your info.

I understand Germany requires hospitalized treatment. Was it costly? I understand Australia hospital charges US$6,900 per treatment.

Also, will it going to be OK if we can't speak German?

The cost of the treatment including the stay in the hospital (3 nights) is around 10K euros. The doctors and most of the nurses speak perfect English. There is not a problem with language except with some medical assistants who speak few words in English. Sometimes I had to use the Google translate app to communicate with some of the assistants.

Thank you again for the info. Though I really love to go to Germany, I guess we should go to Australia for the treatment. $4,000+ per treatment is a big difference for us.

It is a big difference, and they have a lot of experience with Lu 177 PSMA treatment in Australia. Best of luck in this journey.

There's been a LOT of discussion of Lu-177 PSMA treatment here. I just typed "177" (no quotes needed) in the search box at the top of the page and got 15 pages of hits. I think some of them will interest you.

On the language question, I haven't visited a doctor in Germany but I have been there a few times and found a lot of pretty good English speakers. Doctors and scientists are very likely to be good at English since it's the main language used for science around the world.

Australia, of course, is a different problem. It might be said that they don't speak English, only Australian. But then they might say that we only speak American.

I was once stopped on the street by an elderly lady in England who wanted directions. I told her that I wasn't from the neighborhood and wasn't sure. She listened to that, looked at me, and said in a proper English accent, "You really aren't from around here, are you?"

Good luck with it.

LOL, I speak " Japanese" English with questionable "R & L" and "V & B" sounds. Because of the language problems, we didn't consider Germany. However,. I really want to visit Munich and Salzburg so Germany may be a good idea IF the cost is not too bad.

I can say "Hello, do you speak English" in several languages, but the further I go beyond that the harder it gets.

I’m in Bad Berka Germany receiving my second round of treatment. No issues with treatment other than mild fatigue. No real language issues. Probably the biggest difference between Germany and Australia, other than cost is the way Germany regulates radiation exposure. I’m in my second day of isolation and starting to get a bit of cabin fever. I believe that in Australia you do not have to be hospitalized. (I may be wrong on that)

Hope that helps

Oh, ok, now I understand. Because of the radiation exposure Germany requires hospitalized for the treatment and thus cost more expensive than Australia. IF we decide to travel to Australia, I'll get two bedroom accommodation or one bedroom with extra bed In living room then. Thank you so much for the info.

Hi Muzpapa,

Lu177 and other things are available in Australia at Theranostics Australia .

see theranostics.com.au/sydney-...

TA is based in Perth, but I had my 4 x Lu177 shots in Sydney beginning in Nov last year. Psa has moved from 26 to 1.6, and so I got a good benefit from the treatment. I have written much more about Lu177 here and my experience of Pca so if you search this forum for posts on Lu177 and my name Patrick Turner then maybe many question could be answered. I live in Canberra, a small city of 440,000 some 300km south west of Sydney. So I had to travel up to get the Lu177, but it was a pleasant experience and the medical staff I met were good professionals at world standard levels. I met a few men from USA who had flown from USA to have their treatment.

Thank you very much for the info. I'll definitely check all of your prior posts. I thought Canberra is a big city since it's a Capital of Australia. My friend in Japan introduced us to this treatment and Theranostics Australia. I guess a lot of people travel from Japan to Australia also.

By the way, I thought this is basically three treatments but you are having fourth one ?

I have not met any from Japan here, maybe they do come though. Language barrier might put them off.

Standard treatment is 4 x Lu177 infusions 8 weeks apart. PsMa Ga68 scan is needed before starting with initial consult after referral to TA from your oncologist. A No2 PsMa scan is after No 2 Lu177, and to determine if its worth continuing or not. I needed 4 infusions, then No 3 Lu177, which showed a good result, so no need for a No 5 Lu177. Maybe in 6 months time though.

Consults with doctors is by Skype, but on the day you get the infusions there will be a doc from TA to supervise all of what goes on with maybe up to 5 patients. PsMa scans should be able to be obtained where you are now.

BTW, Canberra is a small city, only 440,000, not like Sydney of Melbourne with 5 million+ each. Maybe Perth is closer to Japan than Sydney. But head office of TA is at Perth.

Sydney would have B&B accommodation best arranged using mobile phone. Trains in Sydney are OK and Lu177 is given at Waratah Private hospital at Hurstville, about 500m from train station.

My brother has had 4 Lu -177 sessions in Sydney. Travelling well. Comment: living in Australia is expensive between sessions. I hear that Univ of Pretoria in South Africa is MUCH cheaper. So is living cost. Great country to visit, but there is a minor safety/security risk. I visit there every 2 years to see my wive's family.

If you are in a position to pay for treatment, I just returned from Homburg Germany where I received PMSA lutetium/actinium therapy for metastatic Prostate cancer. It is not a cure but he has great success with remission, and is the new standard of care for ADT resistant prostate cancer in Germany. Dr Ezziddin is one of the pioneers, and one of the two to use tandem therapy that I know of, the clinic is excellent, the staff competent. The mostly speak English.

Here is a video ofDr. Ezziddin:
