Post Firmagon Injection SEs & Covid Vaccine

Hi guys - has anyone experienced worse post injection SEs following having their Covid vaccines? Is there any reason this would happen?

Been on Firmagon for 14 months - always get injection site inflammation and soreness. However, since having my AstroZenica jabs (had 2 jabs) I am getting headache, fast heart rate, bone & muscle pain and sickness feeling for 24hrs the day following the injection. I’m going to mention to my Oncologist at next appointment.

Any thoughts or similar experiences?

Cheers

Darren

That may be an anaphylactic reaction. Tell your oncologist - he may want you to take claritin or switch you to Orgovyx.

Many thanks Tall_Allen - never thought of anti histamines. I will give those a try. As for an alternative my Oncologist had mentioned Zoladex (I’m constrained by what is approved for use by the UK National Health Service).Kindest Regards for your advice and consideration my friend Darren.

I just had a friend who had a near-fatal anaphylactic reaction to either a Lupron shot or Erleada (they were started about the same time, so we aren't sure which caused it). To be safe, he is switching to Orgovyx and Zytiga.

The warnings for Lupron, says:

• Hypersensitivity

LUPRON DEPOT is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to GnRH agonists or any of the excipients in LUPRON DEPOT. Reports of anaphylactic reactions to GnRH agonists have been reported in the medical literature.

So, if it was the shot, it could be allergy to leuprolide, all GnRH agonists, or the excipients (the inert fluids that make a depot shot possible). Because his reaction was so extreme - his WBC count crashed completely - we aren't taking any chances.

It may also have something to do with his recent covid-19 vaccine that hypersensitized him.

Thanks for this post. My husband will check the dates of vaccines vs last Lupron shot, which hurt afterwards for the first time and he has a rash on abdomen

Why not try Lupron. No injection site issue

Not sure if it’s an option on the NHS in UK - I’ll check with my oncologist - thanks for replying

You have four options in the UK but Lupron, under that brand name, is not available under NHS. But you can get an equivalent drug (4 options). Your oncologist will offer you one of them that best fits your disease process.
