Xtandi can really nail your aPca, but monitor side effects. SEs can get out of hand and if they do don't be afraid to cut dose.. Drs saying " that's how it is" are full of crxp.
Burning fingertips, numb on back of hands. Gabapentin upped to 3600 mg has cut burning to the point it is no longer painful to touch keyboard, so typing is much easier.
Shooter, So sorry to hear of painful hands. Dont know about the meds you are taking and what SE it has but if you need a little more help my husband has been using a salve of CBD, THC oil and it has helped with his wrist. Probably not as severe as your pain but it could help.
I started using it as well on my fingers as I have arthritas..
Everyone is different. In some cases Xtandi (enzalutamide) can work for a very long time. In my case, it has been three and a half years with no indication it is slowing down. When I was first diagnosed my PSA was a little under 1700! Gleason 8 (4+4), extensive bone metastases but fortunately no soft tissue involvement. I was put on Zoladex (goserelin) immediately and except for a year when I was on Firmagon (degarelix) I have been on this ever since. At the beginning of September 2017 when my PSA started to rise my oncologist suggested I go on Xtandi. Are their side effects? You bet, but nothing that I can't tolerate. The biggest, other than total loss of libido, are neuropathy in my right foot and overall fatigue. I have heard about others on this site who have gone much longer on Xtandi than me. There are other treatments you can go on after Xtandi but my advice is don't be in any rush. Hope that helps!
How many xtandi pills do you take per day? Do you think that starting on one pill is a good idea and then if it stops working (psa rising) then raise it to two pills a day, then 3 then 4, over time?
Hello, No I don’t. Far better to start with recommended dosage of four pills. Take them in the evening as they often cause drowsiness. If your body can’t handle four pills then you have the option to lessen the dosage, although I wouldn’t do that without consulting with your oncologist. Xtandi (enzalutamide) does cause side effects but for me, given the alternative, nothing I can’t handle. Loss of libido is the biggest one, followed by fatigue, and some brain fog (which might be old age) 😊 Good luck!
Wow 10 years that’s great Warrior, I was diagnosed in 16 and have been on Xtandi since I finished chemotherapy. 4 1/2 years and counting. Hoping I can last that long. Keep up the battle warrior 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I’ve been on Xtandi for around five and a half years now. Still undetectable, cut back to a half dose a little over two years ago due to side effects. I hope it keeps on rocking.
I have been on Xtandi since October 2020. Diagnosed MPC with bones mets in january 2014, since october 2014 on ADT. PSA dropped in october after first month of Xtandi from 80 to 24, now 10,5. No significant SE
Well most medicine has an average lasting power of 1-2 years. I haven't been on something that long yet though which sucks. Longest is a year and shortest is a month. Xtandi is working good for me. At my last PSA check it went from 97 to 50 I believe but it's just been 3 months for me.
Yes my husband takes both Metformin and Lisinopril for 10 years.
His PSA has never got over 5, however everyone is different how PSA runs. He had a RP in 2011 and it had already metastisized. So all his treatments over the years has been beneficial.
Research is always coming forth with new treatments for us.
