Does anyone have any experience with hydroureteronephorosis? My father has a mild case of it in his left kidney. He has no issues urinating thinks maybe a slight pain on that side but no outward complaints.

Hydronephrosis is dilatation of uppermost part of Ureters (tubes taking urine from kidneys to bladder) IHydronephrosis is caused by back flow of urine towards kidneys because of blockage in the path of urine going downwads. Lot of people who have prostate cancer with LUTS end up getting some degree of hydronephrosis...which resolves in most cases. Sometimes a small dilatation of upper ureter remains but as long as prostate cancer is under control ,it hardly cause any symptoms. So, In your father's case, i think its harmless and should be left alone as long as there are no symptoms and serum Creatinine remains below 1.2.

He is stage 4 metastatic and they have been watching it and I guess they want to take care of it before it gets worse. He is scheduled for the procedure next week

In this situation, he does need active treatment to resolve hydronephrosis..to prevent the damage to kidneys.

Both of my ureters have been partially blocked by enlarged lymph nodes. A stint did work for a time but then I went in to kidney failure and now have bilateral nephrostomy tubes to drain my urine. Keep an eye on blood work or you could end up in kidney failure. You may be able to complete radiation of the lymph nodes before blockage occurs. Good luck!

He may have some obstruction to the flow of urine in the dilated side. Ultrasound, CT or MRI scans, and cystoscopy can help to determine the cause. Sometimes dilated lymph nodes may cause some obstruction of the ureter. The problem could be in the vesical trigone , the area where the ureters connect to the bladder and it could be caused by local progression of the cancer. This type of obstruction may not cause abnormal urination.

I had something similar when first dx in Dec 19. A renal ultrasound showed a lumpy outline in my bladder and a swollen left kidney, but that was all. Subsequent CT, MRI and even a PSMA PET scan could not reveal what was actually going on inside my bladder. What was needed was a cystoscopy to get in there and have a look. What the urologist found were PCa tumors in the trigone area which were pressing up against the uteral cavern and closing off the urine flow from my left kidney. I subsequently had a uretal stent put in place until we got those tumors under control. I assume the procedure your referring to is a cystoscopy and hope all goes well with that, cheers 😎 DD.
