A positive Covid-19 story

This is anecdotal, but might be of interest to those who wonder about catching Covid-19. (As we all should be).

My wife tested positive first week of October.

Day 1: Started sneezing now and then, slightly runny nose.

Day 2: Same symptoms - but no temperature. Not enough to suggest Covid.

Day 3: Now flushed in face and losing sense of smell. Got tested. Positive.

Day 4: Rested in bed. Quarantined to corner of house.

Day 5: Up and about. Mowed the lawn, took walks.

Day 6: Back to normal.

No medication or treatment needed or taken.

I was exposed for at least 3 days before the quarantine but never got Covid-19. Both our kids tested negative.

Take home: Be on the alert - this is a contagious virus - but exposure does not mean we automatically succumb.

Interesting, was your wife "around" many people before being tested positive?

She works at a fairly busy medical office, so yes, she would have been around co-workers.

None of her co-workers have tested positive as of today. She wears a mask all day as do her co-workers. We are still not sure where she picked up the virus.

There was a report (Sorry don’t have the link right now) indicating that mask wearing reduces the dose, the number of virus copies that one is likely to receive in a close exposure. So that a mask wearer, even if infected, is more likely to have asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic COVID-19.

Great story. Your wife and family are very fortunate. This virus affects everyone differently. My son had basically the same story, except he didn't mow the lawn. ;-)

One's age, health, exposure time to the virus, treatment, local medical availability & expertise, physical location.....so many variables. Trying to find a one-size-fits-all solution is impossible. Just like prostate cancer.

Such a wide range of risks and responses to this virus. We do not begin to understand it.

No, we don't, nor do the supposed 'experts'.

I think that most of the experts have been professional about it and have given the best advice they have based on what they know. They know about this family of viruses and how they usually behave but it will take more than a year to know how SARS-Covid-19 behaves and every host will respond differently to the virus. All the virus wants to do is make more of itself.

Agreed. Our best guidance, by far, comes from our medical and science professionals.
