If it tastes good then it's bad for you. If it tastes bad then it's good for you. All b.s. aside you will get pros and cons regarding your food selection on this site. My take is eat a good healthy Mediterranean diet and you will live until you die.....

Finish it off with chocolate chip ice cream (two scoops)....

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

If I can find my precious 3X5 cardfile box, I’ll post some of my carb free cost saving recipes that use that heavy brown packing cardboard ... soaked overnight in condiments , ranch dressing and especially tasty sriracha sauce, if you want it spicy. Very filling and flavorful . Cut the pieces to mimic the shape of steaks, hot wings or sandwich meat. ( food coloring can add to the effect if you have the prep time to spare ). The longer you soak it the less chewy it is . Stack the pieces for effect , like thick filet mignon after being soaked in beef bullion cubes. Worcestershire sauce topper. Peel back the soaked sides, cut to shape and put in the oven for a serving of tasty dip chips, etc. yummmmmmy.

If you’re lucky , I just might throw in my Martha Stewart like recipe for using this weeks spent coffee grounds ( why feed the yard worms with them and waste them ) , a jar of that inexpensive freeze dried instant coffee and a couple of your used , washed and dried old paper coffee filters .... to make some surprisingly delicious and affordable cups of “ re-coffee “ ... tingle your buds, save some money and promote regularity.

Just say’in ☕️☕️☕️☕️👀👀👀

j-o-h-n gives good advice but then borders on negligence at the end. He forgot about the hot fudge on the ice cream. Seriously though, if you are going to fight a huge battle recovering from RP and hopefully keeping PCA away, why in the world would you skip hot fudge?

You are Greek and biased towards the Mediterranean diet. I don't even know what a Mediterranean diet is. Fish stink. I am marinating a T-Bone and tomorrow it might be In-N-Out Burger. Cookies and cream ice cream (four scoops)....

Until you are on ADT. Then only one scoop of chocolate chip ice cream. Life can be so cruel. 😆

Plenty of varying opinions on this, but probably the prevailing thought is that a heart-healthy (like, Mediterranean) diet is generally PC-healthy. Limit sugar, junk-food and simple carbs and go heavy on the veg. Chicken would be okay, but not in huge amounts.

Some will suggest fish over chicken over red meat, so far as animal protein goes. For myself, I cut back on eggs, which was formerly a staple. But there is no compelling evidence that this change is going to benefit me. Same goes for many other changes that people make, which I think are probably more important in cancer prevention than cancer treatment.

My belief is that how much, and WHEN you eat, may ultimately be more crucial than exactly WHAT you eat. Even eating all the "right" foods can't be too healthy if you are stuffing your face with large amounts of them virtually non-stop for all of your waking hours (as I myself have been prone to do).

It makes sense to me to limit both total caloric intake AND the frequency of feeding. Ideally, I would eat two relatively large, highly nutritious meals within a 6-8 hour daylight window. This would reduce insulin spikes that correlate with up-regulation of all sorts of factors and processes, many of which are associated with more rapid tumor progression.

Easier said than done, of course.

Thanks for responding with some ideas. initially scared and ate nothing, lost 50 lbs! all accounts online say cruciferous veggies, etc. good on that. even like broccoli , cabbage etc. Found a lot of meat subs, ( beyond meat) found out things to eat, fruits, whole grains, nuts, etc, now am regaining pounds because just like to eat too much! baggy flabby abs, I know that's not right, must make changes, I know of course exercise is in orderi have a long day sitting@ wk, knees bad. Lifetime of bad habits, used to say I only ate one meal a day, started at 7 am, ended at 12 midnight!!! Thanks for communicating with me. Gotta attend to the knees, then exercise, just so hard to develop excercise habits

In older guys, heart disease is 20 x the killer that prostate cancer is, so sticking to a heart-healthy diet is a good thing. Lots of highly colored fruits and vegetables, cruciferous vegetables, fats from vegetable sources, and a variety of different protein sources are probably good. There is no reliable data that chicken or any other protein source is particularly good or bad - just avoid single sources - our bodies evolved to extract micronutrients from a wide variety of foods, and our microbiomes co-evolved with us. Don't try to outsmart billions of years of evolution. Avoid supplements in favor of foods.

Thanks. When diagnosed, lost 50 lbs!!! (Shock & fear) Have been good w/ cruciferous, whole grain, fruits, just think I have found too much I can eat now!, and still old habits, feeding face constantly, sitting too much, (wk) not enough exercise (knees) plenty of excuses. Thanks for responding!

In my opinion, a whole foods plant-based diet is a good approach to healthy eating without going to extremes that have not proven to be any better. Good benefit for the effort.

Here's a link to an article that explains it:

Only 15 so far. Lol

Studies came out recently saying chicken might contribute to pc . I believe it. Ate more chicken and fish than most . Rarely eat animal protein now under direction of a naturalpathic dr . I went all out plant based from the onset of pc over five years ago . Many here say diet diets really affect of . I say . It affects everything . Some guys don’t change a thing . I figured that I needed to change everything . With help from my wife s organic cooking it was not so hard for me to change. Left on my own I probably would not have done it . The naturalpathics think sugar and all processed foods should be cut for any cancer.Patients ... It’s up to you to heal yourself any way that you feel fit . Good luck

Can you cite the studies indicating chicken in particular....or was it just animal protein in general? I am not aware of such studies.

It was as on the national news maybe six months back .. ? I love all foods. I now eat a little animal protein about once every ten days .

MateoBeach profile image
MateoBeach in reply to

Well save up a few of those every-10-days animal protein Days for when my wife and I come to visit you in AZ next Spring. And stay healthy anyway you can amigo. Since we got turned around by closures when in Death Valley in March, I’m determined to pull up to your digs on my Africa Twin next year and have some close up (6 feet) conversation in person.

I have been doing really well on my ketogenic One- Meal-a-Day program. This includes lots of protein without restriction, but the chocolate chip ice cream can be problematic, darn it! Weight down 45lbs and very lean with endless energy. Going for another section hike for 10 days on the John Muir Trail this week. Because I still can.

in reply toMateoBeach

It’s a plan then ! God willing! You are doing great . Saw some redwoods burning in cali today on tv.l😩 Everyone is chomping at the bit to get back to normal travels. Until then, keep up the good work. John Muir trail , fantastic!

You might start with a trained nutritionist-physician like Michael Greger, MD. He is the author of “how not to die”, a best seller. You will also find his website nutrition facts.org very useful in planning food preparation and selection. His website also offers numerous videos on diet and prostate cancer. Dr. Greger Is board certified in lifestyle medicine.

Good luck!

Post RP things that produce large hard stools so you have to strain are bad. After a few weeks you can go back to your extra krispi wild buffalo wings, Cheetos etc. but heart healthy foods like pickled herring, hard tack and sauerkraut might increase your lifespan.

CalBear74 profile image
CalBear74 in reply tock722

There are plenty of more delectable foods consistent with a plant food-based diet. See nutrition facts.org and get the free downloadable app from Dr. Greger the DailyDozen.

I looked up how to make pickled herring. I'm still a little queasy. I need to stock up on more krispi wild buffalo wings. I hope the wild buffalo don't get covid-19.

Hey Masonsdad!

There is much on the net.

Read about Dr. Ruth Heidrich and how she followed Dr. John McDougall's diet, view Dr. Greger's, Dr. Klotz's, Dr. Charles "Snuffy" Meyer's and Dr. Fuhrman's YouTube videos. Make your own decisions. Be cautious of claims by those without the background of those I mentioned. Dr. Klotz and Dr. Meyers are highly respected in treating prostate cancer, international reputations and well deserved. Please note that they don't sell anything.

Opinions abound here. Feel free to make your own opinion.

Heart-healthy = PCa-healthy & the Mediterranean diet is heart-healthy. It is 40% fat & that is part of the package. A low-fat Med diet has not been tested. It would be a high-carb diet & that may not be good for someone with PCa.
