Hello,

My husband Michael will need to start Zytiga, any recommendations

on how to get this at a reduced cost. He is on Medicare and was told the first month would be about $2700. Ouch! the site Janssen care does not help as Mike has medicare v. a private drug plan. any thoughts on this,

thanks

My husband is on Medicare and recently started Zytiga. We got the generic version through Optum RX for $92.00 a month.

Not Yonsa. Abiraterone acetate., OptumRX is the specialty pharmacy that filled the prescription through his Medicare plan., standard Medicare, not an advantage plan.

Kaiser supplies mine and it is the generic version. After copay which went fast after radiation I pay 0 prior to it approx $350 per month. No Medicare here so.... but I believe it is Yonda but not 100% sure.

Also prior to realizing what options I had the cancer center had me sign up with Jansen for copay assistance. I still have the documents if your interested.

What kind of insurance do they take? I use a specialty pharmacy in illinois and after insurance it’s $600!

Medicare part D. I was quite surprised since we paid over $600 a month when he was on Erleada.

What drug plan do you have? OptumRx is United Healthcare's mail-order pharmacy. I'm not sure if they will sell drugs outside of their subscribers. Would like to know however?

I don’t know what state you are in but many states have State Pharmaceutical Assistance Programs for people over 65... Worth taking a look...... When I was researching Abiraterone ( though I am not on it yet) the best deals were in India.... It takes a bit of effort to get a good price but don’t give up looking.... I, for one, would go bankrupt if I had to pay full price for the drug..... Good Luck to both of you...

Have his Urologist contact the Patient Access Network. They help with the cost of drugs. If you need information on these organizations let me know.

If all else fails, I can give you a person to contact in India. The price is way less and it's the same drug sold here in the US.

I don't know if it is possible but try to get it from India.I reside in India and get the generic version for Rupees 10,000 which is around $140.

Contact Johnson &Johnson Patient Assistance Program at 800-652-6227. If you qualify you can get it free.

Most generic abiraterone manufacturer's will provide a $500 copay assistance toward the amount but hopefully you can get more through other ways posted here. Also, the hospital pharmacy may have an assistance program, if you qualify financially.

Good luck!

Go to Fund finder and apply to them on line. They then send you all open grants that become available for PC. I'm on generic Zytiga going on three years and between Medicare, my insurance supplement, and grant's I pay $0. There is help out there if you do the research. My Doctor and his staff set me up with this information and I thank them everyday. Leo

I am about to start this journey. My oncologist just prescribed me Zytiga yesterday and is going through the process to get approval through Insurance. I do have united healthcare : optumrx, but am not looking forward to the copay. Thank you to everyone mentioning the places to look for copay assistance!

Medicare is Not a drug plan (Part D insurance is,). Try asking the pharmacy, connected with your oncologist. There are foundations set up that offer grants. I am on one. PAN panfoundation.org.

Or the $92 sounds good.

Best luck.

Janssen was not helpful for us either but our MO and the pharmacy team worked and found another source. I’m not home now for a few days to look up the name of the foundation. Keep bugging those pros who say you need it. We had to fit an income guideline not too difficult since hubby had been hurting so and not working his HVAC business

You can get the generic version of Zytiga, abiraterone, for about $312 a month at Costco using the GoodRx app coupon. No Costco membership required to use their pharmacy.
